Ricky L. Milstead

Mr. Ricky L. Milstead, age 62, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023, in Pensacola, Fla. He has resided most of his life in McDavid, Fla. He worked in the gas and oil field business for many years. He enjoyed tinkering on different things, going fishing and to the mountains. He enjoyed playing a good game of pool and darts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley Eugene (Janie Johnson) Milstead.

Mr. Milstead is survived by his loving wife of thirty-five years, Sherry Milstead of Flomaton, Ala.; four sons, Jonathan L. (Windy) Milstead of Milton, Fla., Brandon Tedder of Atmore, Ala., Wiley (Kristin) Lindsey, of Brewton, Ala… and Brent Lambeth of Flomaton; one daughter, Leondra (Travis) Reeves of Milton; one brother, Dudley Eugene (Rachel) Milstead, Jr. of Brewton, Ala.; six grandchildren, Nathean, Windy Rain, Madison, Ashlynn, Autumn, Jayda; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Rain, Richard  and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 11, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Rickey Tedder officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 11, 2023, from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.

Pallbearers will be Henry Tedder, Brandon Tedder, Robert Johnson, Percy Johnson, Tim Powell and Kevin Merchant.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Merchant and BJ Johnson.

Dennis Griffis

Mr. Dennis Griffis, age 60, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023 at his home in McDavid, Fla. He was born in Century, Fla. and has resided most of his life in McDavid. He worked construction for many years. He enjoyed all the family get togethers. He always stayed with family and friends through-out their sicknesses and their stays in the hospital. He enjoyed paying practical jokes on people, watching movies, football games and working on electronics.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J D (Ruby Johnson) Griffis; two brothers, Wayne (Mary) Griffis, Gary Griffis; one sister, Annette Lambeth; two nephews, David Griffis, Chad Hanks and one great-nephew, Dalton, Hanks.

Mr. Griffis is survived by his one God-son, Jon Jon (Karissa) Griffis of Flomaton, Ala.; one God-daughter, Bailee Griffis of Flomaton; two brothers, Danny Griffis and Tony Griffis, both of McDavid; two sisters, Patsy Griffis of McDavid and Brenda Hanks (Rocky Coffey) of Century, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 11, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Tim Floyd officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Jay, Fla.

The family received friends Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Griffis, Jon Jon Griffis, Bud Campbell, James Emmons, Jr. Emmons and Mark Henington.

Honorary pallbearers will be Logan Hanks, Sammy Portwood and Jase Portwood.

John Bonner Lee, Jr.

Mr. John Bonner Lee, Junior, of Gosport, Ala. passed away at his home Wednesday, August 9, 2023 following a recent illness. He was born in Mobile, Ala. to John Bonner Lee, Sr. and Edith Earle Swanson Lee.  He was a 1955 graduate of Clarke County High School. He played baseball for Auburn University, was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture in 1960.  He worked as a Field Representative with Mississippi Chemical for many years, traveling throughout the Southeast, while also managing the family farm in Gosport alongside his cousin, Ned. He also coached baseball in Monroeville for many years.

Family and friends were always welcome at the camp house in Gosport, and many fond memories were made of these times together. He remained a supporter of Auburn University and he loved Atlanta Braves baseball.

Mr. Lee is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Barbara; sons, Bonner (Michelle) Lee of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and James (Cindy) Lee of Atmore, Ala.; cousin, Ned Lee of Montgomery, Ala.; grandchildren Mary Katherine Swanson Lee, Judson Lee, Sarah Elizabeth Lee and a multitude of cousins and extended family.

A family graveside service will be held at Gosport Cemetery Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. with visitation from 3 until 5 p.m. at Monroeville Presbyterian Church at 235 North Mount Pleasant Avenue, Monroeville, Ala.

Hannah Annette Martin

Ms. Hannah Annette Martin, age 24, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, August 6, 2023. She was a 2017 “Top 10” graduate of Escambia County High School. She earned her CMA license in 2022, and was recently pursuing a degree in business from Columbia Southern University. She was not only a scholar, but also an athlete, active in cheerleading and softball. As an adult, Hannah was an active player and coach for NAYO and NASA softball.

She was a daddy’s girl and her mother’s world. She had a beautiful spirit and a smile that would light up any room. She was the ideal big sister and best friend. She was independent, fearless, and strong. Above all, she was self-less, always putting the needs of others before her own. In her twenty-four years, Hannah touched more lives than can be counted. From the elderly she cared for to her God-son and nephew, she lived to make others happy. Most recently, she worked as the Patient Access Specialist for the Poarch Band of Creek Indians First-Generation Clinic. Previously, worked as Adult Services Case Manager for the Poarch Band of Creek Indians from 2019-2022.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bobby Martin and Johnny and Deborah Madison, and brother LaDalvin Hixon.

Ms. Martin  is survived by parents, Haley and Antywon Madison and Lamarlen Hixon; brothers, Noah (Reini) Martin, Isaiah Madison, Janagen Grace, Jakhiryn Hixon; sisters, LaDasia Willis, Jakiyah Hixon and Jalia Lassiter; grandparents, Bobby (Donna) Milstead, Annette Hixon Frye and Scottie Dixon; nephew, Baylor-Hayes Lavon Martin; God-son, Brady Joe French and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Homegoing services will be held August 14, 2023 at McCullough Christian Center at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Judson Creek Indian Cemetery. Repast will follow at the McCullough Christian Center Gym.

The family will receive friends Sunday, August 13, 2023 at McCullough Christian Center from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. for friends.

Pall bearers will be Noah Martin, Isaiah Madison, Winston Barron, LaDarius Willis, Triston Knott, Tadd Huskey, Gavin Snow and Janagen Grace.

Honorary pall bearers will be LaDasia Willis, Jakiyah Hixon, Alia Snow, Lexi Huskey, Trista Barlow, Jazmine Norman, Kiah Parker, Michelle Barron, Kennedy Green and Saniyah Hixon.

Georgia Dortch, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, August 14, 2023 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

Dylan Jashawn Grimes

Mr. Dylan Jashawn Grimes, age 18, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, August 3, 2023 in Mobile, Ala. He was born in Montgomery, Ala. to Shuntia Grimes and Terrell McNeil. He was a 2023 graduate of Escambia County High School in Atmore. He was a lifeguard at the VJ Franklin Community Pool. He loved swimming and had a passion for music.

Mr. Grimes is survived by his parents, Shuntia Grimes of Birmingham, Ala. and Terrell McNeil of Atmore; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Grimes and Mr. and Mrs. James McNeil; siblings, DaMiya Grimes, Terianna McNeil, Kylah McNeil, Jeremy Miller, Terrell McNeil, Jr., Honey McNeil, Kylen McNeil and Kreed McNeil; one niece, Azalea Nix; one nephew, Mau’Jour Grimes; uncles, James McNeil, Jr., Terrence McNeil and Brian Grimes; a host of cousins, relatives, classmates and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel’s Faith Center with Rev. Williams, Eulogist. Interment followed in Stallworth Cemetery.

Pallbearers and flower bearers were his family and friends.
