Patricia A. Ward

Ms. Patricia A. Ward, age 81, of Century, Fla. passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023. She was born in Bluff Springs, Fla. She was a member of Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church and was the Dietary Manager at Jay Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ollie “Tiny” Matheny.

Ms. Ward is survived by her siblings, Carl Matheny, Norma Dorriety and Peggy Little, all of Atmore, Ala., Lola Alverson (Gary Helton) of Robinsonville, Ala. and Carolyn Matheny (Tom Piatak) of Pace, Fla., along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. 

Graveside services will be held Monday, July 24, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church Cemetery with Bro. Tim Floyd officiating.  Interment will follow in Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church Cemetery in Byrneville, Fla.

Joe Marion Shivers, Jr. 

Mr. Joe Marion Shivers, Sr., age 96, passed away Tuesday, July18, 2023 in Milton, Fla. He has resided most of his life in Flomaton, Ala. He served in the United Sates Army and retired from Shelltex Company with many years of service. He was an avid Alabama football fan and enjoyed watching boxing. He enjoyed many outdoor activities especially, gardening, fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas (Mary Etta) Shivers; wife, Martha Lou Shivers; one sister, Vergie Lee Kelly; seven brothers, Jessie Shiver, Julius Shiver, Allie Shivers, Clark Shivers, Carl Shivers, Roy Shivers and Tommie Shivers, Jr.
Mr. Shivers is survived by his one son, Joe (Sue) Shivers, Jr. of Jay, Fla.; two grandchildren, Philip Shivers and Angel Shivers (Terry) Kelley, both of Jay; five great-grandchildren, Autumn Shivers, Alex Shivers, Carson Shivers, Peighton Cobb, Jansen Cobb and other relatives.
Graveside services will be held Friday, July 21, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Ebenezer Cemetery with Rev. Ray Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 21, 2023 from 12:30 p.m. until service time at 1 p.m. at Ebenezer Cemetery
Pallbearers will be Terry Kelley, Philip Shivers, Josh Majors, Brayden Lynn and Jansen Cobb.

Dorris Eugene Vaughn

Mr. Dorris Eugene Vaughn, Sr., age 90, of Seminole, Ala., passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023. He was born in Franklin, Tenn. to Howard and Pauline Vaughn. 

He was an expert machinist and tool and die maker and was an excellent mechanic. He built several homes and even a boat. He always loved aviation and his lifelong dream was to learn to fly. After retirement he got his pilot’s license, purchased a plane and built an airstrip on his property. He was a dedicated employee and volunteer at NAS Pensacola for many years. Most importantly, He loved the Lord fervently.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Vaughn; son, John Vaughn and son-in-law, Chris Hawkins, Sr. 

Mr. Vaughn is survived by his loving wife of seventy-two years, Teenie Vaughn; daughters, Debra (Avon) Fowler, Connie Hawkins, Paula (George) Bechtold, Pam (Jerry) Hahn, and Carol (Joel) Coberly; sons, Eugene Vaughn, Douglas Vaughn, James (Wendy) Vaughn and Glenn (Shellie) Vaughn; daughter-in-law, Pam Vaughn; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Velma Fillingim and Norma (Clarke) Danzey; his sister-in-law, Wanda Vaughn. 

The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Victory Assembly of God.

Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. at Victory Assembly of God, 1895 Victory Road, Cantonment, Fla. 32533 with Rev. Jeff McKee officiating. Interment will follow at Vaughn Family Cemetery at 19756 Vaughn Road, Seminole, AL. Music by son, Rev. Glenn Vaughn. 

Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Chris Hawkins, Jr., Kenny Wayne McDonald, David Hawkins, Brandon Vaughn, Joey Coberly, Tyler Vaughn, Lowell Vaughn, Travis Vaughn.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Daniel Hahn, Zachary Hahn, Nathan Vaughn, Weston Vaughn.

Audrey Ledkins

Audrey Ledkins, age 75, of Poarch, Ala., passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023 in Atmore, Ala. She was born in Walnut Hill, Fla. to William Carmel and Addie Cook Bartley. She was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith and retired from Vanity Fair Corporation.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William Bartley and Jerry Bartley; three sisters, Verna Semora, Myrt Mallis and Norene Hall.

Mrs. Ledkins is survived by her children, Timothy John Pearson (Jennifer Colbert) of Bratt, Fla. and Michelle Qualls of Atmore; special nieces, Addie McGhee (Jamie Mondaca), Emily Craft and Mary Ann Hadley; her brothers, Michael (Annie Mae) Bartley of Loxley, Ala. and Kenny (Cindy) Bartley of Stockton, Ala.; her sisters, Luvenia Phillips, Mary Hodges and Carol Collier, all of Mobile, Ala., Reetha (George) Thomley of Tensaw, Ala., Emma Hadley and Pamela Richardson, all of Atmore, Yvonne (Terry) McGhee of Poarch, Ala.; her grandchildren, Blake Pearson, Micah Herrington and Taylor Qualls along with many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Pine Barren Baptist Church Cemetery in Davisville, Fla.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 26, 2023 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore, AL.

Judith Alicia Prestwood Lorenz

Judith Alicia Prestwood Lorenz,age 81,passedaway Sunday, July 9, 2023, in Pensacola, Fla. She was born May 19, 1942 in McCullough, Ala. to the late Terry and Inez (Robinson) Prestwood (later Davis). The eldest of “the Prestwood girls” as they would come to be referred to in the community, she was raised and lived with faith in God and love of and pride in family. She earned bachelors and master’s degrees from the University of Alabama and worked as a teacher, a social worker and a psychometrist in several organizations. Through protecting, encouraging, teaching, and advocating, she influenced a large number of children for the better and left a legacy of love.

Ms. Lorenz is survived by her son, David (Sangitha) Lorenz; granddaughter, Karishma; siblings, George Prestwood and friend Wendy Peterson, Sylvia Bellot, Marcia Thompson, Sandra Wood, Jennifer (Mike) Manasco and Oris (Monica) Davis, Jr. and other family.

A memorial service will be held at the Prestwood family plot at McCullough Cemetery, Atmore, Ala. Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 10 a.m.

Jessica Ann Mathis

Ms. Jessica Ann Mathis, age 34, passed away July 19, 2023 at Sacred Heart Hospital where she was born. She lived life to the fullest, she was fearless and a fighter. Her children were the light of her life, and although she was a parent and an adult, she was still her Daddy’s Princess Jessica. She always said she was his favorite kid and even once gave him a shirt saying so. She enjoyed going to the creek, the beach and loved swimming, boating, basically anything pertaining to water she enjoyed. She was a baptized Christian and read the Bible faithfully.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Donna Childress Mathis.

Ms. Mathis is survived by her father. Tommy (Sandra) Mathis of Clermont, Fla.; three children, Ayden Mitchell, Arianna Mathis and Julie Davidson; one sister, Brandi Holt (Vida) of Dothan, Ala.; four brothers, Jason (Amanda) Mathis, of Milton, Fla., Jeremy (Jessica) Mathis of Southport, Fla., Eric Mathis of Brooksville, Fla. and Luke Mathis of Clermont, Fla.; aunts and uncles, Michael (Nikki) Childress and Jimmy (Phyllis) Mathis, all of Byrneville, Fla.; many beloved nieces and nephews, Jordan, Tyler, Chase, Jayda, Joni, Katelyn, Havynn, Raylan, South, Joshua, Cannon, Keaton, Ridge, Dezmond; cherished friends that became family, Allisa Garrett, Emma Garrett, Wayne Martin, Brenton Emmons, Angela Simmons, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Faith Church, 825 Dailey St., East Brewton, Ala. with Pastor Steve Massingill officiating.

Kody Kyle Johnson

Mr. Kody Kyle Johnson, age 25, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023 in Monroeville, Ala. He was born in Tallahassee, Fla. and has resided most of his life in Uriah, Ala. He was a member of Mineola Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing, fishing and going to the creek. He always enjoyed building different things and tinkering.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his father, John L. (Rhonda) Johnson of Atmore, Ala.; grandparents, Julian (Sarah) Johnson of Atmore, Carl (Peggy) Smith of Uriah, Ala.; two step-sisters, Crystal Brown of Miami, Fla., Brittany Brown of Atmore; one brother, Jason Smith of Hattiesburg, Miss.; four sisters, Ashley Smith (Michael Reynolds) of Atmore, Patricia (Kenny) Baggett of Uriah, Alicia Reeves of Lakewood, Fla. and Brittany Reeves of Lake wood; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.

Gregory Boyd Blackwell

Mr. Gregory Boyd Blackwell, age 62, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023 in Atmore, Ala. He has resided his whole life in Atmore. He enjoyed spending time on his lawnmower.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto (Barbara Rutherford) Blackwell; grandmother, Lunette Rutherford and best friend, Lurby Denais.

Mr. Blackwell is survived by his special friend, Becky Walls Blackwell Denais of Atmore; one son, Gilbert Wade Blackwell of Atmore; one daughter, Hannah Blackwell Conway, of Atmore; five grandchildren, Baileigh Irene Blackwell, Barrett Nigozi Finney, Jr., Robbie Conway, Kinlee Grace Conway, Ty Gregory Conway; special aunt, Minney Skaggs, of Atmore and other relatives.
