The staff of the Atmore Public Library brings a variety of folks in for the summer reading program every Friday in June. The first Friday was reptiles, the second was the poodle show. The third – an outdoor petting zoo – was cancelled due to weather.
Friday, June 23, Bruce and Vernelle Brannen brought their Wild West show to the library for some “rootin’ tootin’ cowboy fun.
Bruce started the show by singing “Back in the Saddle Again.”
He shared information about cowboys, did some yodeling, and lariat and whip tricks. Vernelle was a little iffy about holding something in her mouth like Bruce popped it in half with a whip – but she did it.
When Bruce talked about a cattle drive, he had props for kids to make up a drive – complete with hats and horns, even an apron for the chuckwagon cook.
After leading everyone in singing “Home on the Range,” Bruce closed with “May the good Lord smile on the trail that you ride.”
