Ivan Ramer

Ramer

Ivan Ramer, age 72, passed away on June 26, 2023 at his home in Poarch, AL.  He was born on April 2, 1951 in Escambia County, AL.  He was a member of Poarch Baptist Church.  Ivan was an avid dog hunter and wrestling fan. He was a Correctional Officer with Alabama Department of Corrections.  He served in the Army National Guard for twenty-five years before retiring.  During his career in service, he served during Operation Desert Storm.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis Ramer and Zulean Hadley Morris and his grandparents, Jim and Leona Ramer, and Arch and Mamie Hadley.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Vera Ramer; his son, Timothy (Tara) Ramer of Robinsonville, AL; his daughter, Ginger (Doug) Murphy of Martinville, AL; his siblings, Randy (Patti) Ramer of Moss Point, MS and Linda Ramer of Loganville, GA; his half-sister, Sharon Etheridge of Rabun, AL; his grandchildren: Jordan Redditt, Katie DeZeno, Raeven Ramer, River Ramer, Cale Ramer, Colt Ramer, Brooklyn Ramer, Cameron Murphy, Cassidy Murphy, Callie Murphy and Carlie Murphy along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Roger Grandstaff and Bro. William “Bubba” Rolin officiating. Interment will follow in New Home Cemetery in Poarch, AL.

Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Odom, Ronald Rolin, Dempsey Rolin, Ronnie Rolin, Mitchell Rolin and Lucas Andrews.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to SouthernCare Hospice especially to his nurse, Jennifer Haskew and his special hunting friends, Ronnie Jackson, Don Jackson, Udell Sheffield and Jack Knowles.

Willie Clarence Likely

Mr. Willie “2 Niney” Clarence Likely, age 84, of Brewton, Ala., passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023 at Westgate Nursing Home Hospice Care, Brewton after losing his battle with cancer. He was to born Frank and Georgia Likely. H attended school is Johnsonville, Ala. and began working in the paper wood logger field for the majority of his life. His favorite hobby was fishing and watching sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Catherine Likely; three sisters, Mary Kyle, Georgia Likely and Hattie Weatherspoon; brother, Frank Likely.

Mr. Likely is survived by his significant other, Mildred Bettis of Pensacola, Fla.; four daughters, Abigail Likely of La., Ruby Bolder and Rose McCalop, both of Pensacola, Fla. and Aundra Autrey of Tenn.; son, Willie “Campbell of Brewton; three daughters in Christ, Marilyn Brooks and Amanda Samuel, both  

of Pensacola and Loretta (Anthony) Watkins of Cordova, Tenn.; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 23, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Baptist Hill Cemetery, Sewell Road, Brewton with Pastor Jason Shufford, Sr., officiating.

James Anthony Matthews, Jr.

Mr. James Anthony “Big Daddy” Matthews, Jr., age 22, of Evergreen, Ala., passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023. He was born in Escambia County, Ala. to Monica L. Simpson and James Anthony Matthews, Sr. He was educated in the Conecuh County School System where he was an honor student. He loved sports, especially basketball. He loved working on small engines. He worked in manufacturing where he drove forklifts in Huntsville, Ala. He attended Unity in Christ Outreach Ministries, Evergreen. He had a heart of gold.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rhonda E. Simpson and Sammie L. Morrissette; special cousin/best friend, Elijah Castillo.

Mr. Matthews is survived by his children, Jordyn Matthews, Ja’Loni Middleton and unborn, J.A.M.; parents; grandparents, Deloris A. Dukes of Evergreen and James Anthony Carter of N.J.; four sisters, Khadeshja Simpson, Alexis Simpson, Harmonie Merrills, all of Evergreen, Destiny Eddins of Dothan, Ala.; four brothers, Zaymerious Cobb, Tidarious Bogan, Cash Taylor, all of Evergreen and Dia Matthews of Atmore, Ala; nieces and nephews, Morgan McCreary, Armoni Black, Arianna Ratcliff, Da’Mir Eddins, Da’Mira Eddins; aunts, Pamela Simpson of Huntsville, Shirley Clausell of Pensacola and Alyce Morrissette Lipscomb of Monroeville, Ala.; special friend, Tay Blackmon.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Jordan Memorial Gardens with Pastor Wayne Nevlous officiating. Interment followed at Jordan Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers and flower bearers were his family and friends.

Eliza Walker Scott

Eliza Walker Scott, age 78, of Century, Fla., passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023. She was born in Franklin, Ala. to the late Jesse Earl Bradley and Georgie Mae Bradley-Showers. Her father passed when she was young and Daniel Showers, Sr. reared her. She received her high school diploma in Century. She was an entrepreneur providing cleaning services. She was a faithful member of Bethel A.F.M. Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Bradley and one sister.

Ms. Scott is survived by Lou Bertha Edwards of Norfolk, Va., Dave J. Walker, Daphne (Anthony) Widemond, Katrina (John) Jackson, Lasalle Sr. (Claron) Walker, all of Jacksonville, Fla. and Arthur Walker of Century; two sisters, Georgia Lee (Charles) Bailey of Albion, Mich. and Debra (Pete) Fountain of Pensacola, Fla.; ten grandchildren, Jessica Edwards, Nakita (Rachel) Myles, Dave Walker, Jr., Stephen Walker (Kenisha Smith), Carlesia Abney, Michael Askew, Lasalle Walker, Jr., Zaccheus Baker, Zaccari Walker and La’Kya Walker; six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Bethel A.F.M. Church of God with Pastor Bishop Russell Fountain, Jr. officiating. Interment followed in Century Cemetery.

Pallbearers were her sons and grandsons.

Flower bearers were missionaries and friends.

Lisa Gaye Lake

Ms. Lisa Gaye Lake, age 58, passed away, Monday, June 26, 2023 in Atmore, Ala. She was born in San Diego, Calif. and later on in life moved to Atmore, where she has resided most of her life. She was a very avid Alabama Football Fan. She enjoyed sitting down and watching a good western movie. She loved her cats, and was a very dedicated hard worker.

She was preceded in death by her father, Verne Lake; mother, Gloria Pritchard Padgett and step-father, Oscar “Jr” Matheny.

Ms. Lake is survived by her one brother, John (Sherry) Lake of San Jose, Calif.; three sisters, Carol Lake, Angel (Thomas) Righter and Sabrina Matheny (Paul Hillman), all of Perdido, Ala.; one nephew, Calem (Ashlyn) Robinson; two nieces, Holly Searcy, Briaunna Matheny; other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, July 2, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.

Rita Berry Sanders

Mrs. Rita Berry Sanders, age 78, of Bell, Fla., passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2023 06/27/2023 in Chiefland, Fla. She was born in Pike County, Ala. to Casey and Lou Ada Thompson Berry. She was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ. She was a seamstress with Vanity Fair Corporation until she retired.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin Lewis Sanders; her daughter, Nelline Sanders Steele and her sister, Donna Hadley.

Mrs. Sanders is survived by her son, Michael Eric (Jill) Sanders of Bell; her brother, William Ronnie (Brenda) Berry of Bratt, Fla.; her sister, Ronell Berry Garrett of Walnut Hill, Fla. and her grandchildren, Richard Kyle Sanders and Deborah Marie Sanders Moore.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore, Ala.

Johnny “Mike” Seals

Mr. Johnny “Mike” Seals, age 65, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at his home in McDavid, Fla. He was a resident of Walnut Hill, Fla. most of his life. He was retired from the shipyard with many years of service. He enjoyed many outdoor activities especially going fishing, playing basketball and going to the beach in Panama City, Fla. He loved to sit back and watch some good Alabama football. He enjoyed riding the old back roads.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Joel Seals; mother, Melvie Seals House; wife, Becky Seals; two sisters, Lisa Seals Hadley and Janice Hall; one brother, William Joel Seals, Jr.

Mr. Seals is survived by one son, Michael (Crystal) Seals of Wetumpka, Ala.; one daughter, Shanon (Richard) Roux, of Monmouth, Maine; three sisters, Shelia Lee of Century, Fla.; Donna Jordan of Atmore, Ala.; Sheree Morgan of Loxley, Ala.; five grandchildren, Savanna, Samantha, Olivia, Haiden, Ryland; three great-grandchildren, Myles, Emmalyn, Dallas; special friends, Diane Crews, Winston Dortch, Ronnie Caraway, Ronald Hall, and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 3, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Ronald Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery.

James Larry “Stoney” Presley

Mr. James Larry “Stoney” Presley, age 55, of Nokomis, Fla., passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2023. He was born in Atmore, Ala. to Jesse Larry Presley and Linda Davis Presley. He was a retired aircraft mechanic. He had a love of disassembling old things and bringing new life to them. He loved his family dearly. Stoney also enjoyed rock music, fishing, good ole southern food and guns.  

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Presley is survived by his wife, Sandy Presley; his son, Jesse Stone Presley of Perdido, Ala.; his daughter, Rachel Presley (Kyle Robbins) of Pensacola, Fla.; his siblings, Chester Presley and Angelia (Billy) Rolin, all of Atmore and his granddaughter, Riley Brown.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, July 7, 2023 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Alene Colbert

Ms. Alene Colbert, age 80, passed away Friday, June 30, 2023, in Atmore, Ala. She was born in Garland, Ala. She has resided in Atmore most of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren and really enjoyed going to church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Selma Ernest (Peggy) Harvill and two brothers, Jimmy and Sammy Harvill.
Ms. Colbert is survived by her four loving sons, Ricky (Alison) Colbert of Jupiter, Fla., Tommy Colbert, of Atmore, Craig Colbert of Tensaw, Ala. and Scotty Colbert of  Perdido, Ala.; two sisters, Peggy Joyce Maynard of Prattville, Ala. and Madine Hamilton of  Atmore and other relatives.
Graveside services and burial will be held Monday, July 3, 2023 at 10:15 a.m.at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Barbara A. Agerton

Mrs. Barbara A. Agerton, age 85, passed away Friday, June 30, 2023 in Pensacola, Fla. She was born in Verndale, S.C. to the late Wilbur and Bertha Miller Cumbee. She attended Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Edward Clark Agerton.

Mrs. Agerton is survived by her children, Robert (Melinda) Agerton of Monroeville, Ala., James (Stacey) Agerton of Atmore, Ala., Gene Agerton and Kristy (Kris) Marshall, all of Oak Grove, Fla.; her sisters, Bernice Jones, Karen Cumbee and Wilma Gilberto; her grandchildren, Justice, Jadlyn, Tristan, Jameson, Ashley, Nick, Jordan, Mindy and Kaylee and her great-grandchildren,  Aleigha, Christian and Jensen.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at 3:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Tim Floyd officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Kris Marshall, Justice Agerton, Tristan Agerton, Jameson Agerton, Christian Banks and Andrew Bedgood.

Billie Joe Rolin

Mr. Billie Joe Rolin, age 75, passed away Friday, June 30, 2023, in Atmore, Ala. He was a proud member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. He has lived in the Atmore area most of his life. He retired from the City of Atmore with many years of service. He enjoyed many outdoor activities especially going fishing and hunting. He enjoyed riding around on his golf cart and cutting his grass.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Washington (Mary Magaline) Rolin; two brothers, Frank Rolin, Glen Rolin; one sister, Delores Schultz; two nephews, Hubert Lee Rackard, Jr. and Glen Rolin.

Mr. Rolin is survived by one sister, Leanna Rackard of Atmore; one niece, Anita Glass of Flomaton, Ala.; four nephews, Kevin (Trina) Rackard of Lottie, Ala., Rodney Rackard, Jerry (Tammy) Rolin, Tommy Rolin, all of Atmore; a host of great-nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Samuel Keith “Sammy” Gibbs

Mr. Samuel Keith “Sammy” Gibbs, age 61, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023 in Birmingham, Ala. He had resided in the Atmore, Ala. area most of his life and was a member of Unity Baptist Church. He loved farming, enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to the beach. He was president of Alfa Insurance Board for twenty years and an avid Auburn Football Fan. He was always a very generous and giving person.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee (Mary Frances) Gibbs and one nephew, Scott Gibbs.
Mr. Gibbs is survived by his wife of sixteen years, Annette Gibbs of Atmore; one step-daughter, Brittany (Cody) McElroy of Atmore; two brothers, Tony (Wanda) Gibbs of Walnut Hill, Fla. and Bob (Pam) Gibbs of Monroeville, Ala.; one sister, Cheryl Gibbs of Spanish Fort, Ala.; one step-grandson, Will McElroy; numerous nieces, nephews, a special friend, Tim Mullek, and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Josh Long and Rev. Bill Watts officiating. Burial will follow at Canoe Freewill Cemetery.

Sabrina Verdell Dailey

Dailey

Ms. Sabrina Verdell Dailey, age 47, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at her residence. She was a native of Beatrice, Ala. She was a 1993 graduate of J. F. Shields High School. She had been a resident of Atmore for almost 12 years, during which time she worked as a nutritional worker for Escambia County (AL) Board of Education at Rachel Patterson Elementary School until her health failed. She was also an employee at Turner Funeral Chapel.

Ms. Dailey is survived by her son, Desmond Williams (Briana); daughters, Cassity Dailey (Quan), LaRoyia A. Turner; spouse, Louie Turner, III; mother and step-father, Debra Diane and Bobby Nettles; father and step-mother, Willie, Jr. and Marcie Watts; sisters, LaSharon (Kelvin) Tolliver, Martha Watts, Dominique Nettles (Eric); three grandsons, Caleb Craft, Chase Martin and Riley Williams; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Beatrice, Ala. with Rev. Daniel Nettles, Pastor, officiating. Inhumation followed in Pineville Cemetery in Beatrice.
