Mickeal A. Hazley

Mr. Mickeal A. “Boney” Hazley, age 66, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023. He was born in Atmore to Slyvia Hazley Williams and the late Charlie Bozaman.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Bozaman; step-father, A.C. Williams; grandfather, Henry Hazley; grandmother, Nannie Bell Gandy; a daughter, Ebony Jovon Hazley; three brothers, Christopher Williams, William Hazley and Pastor Albert E. Hazley Sr.; three nieces, Tammy Hazley, LaKayla Norman and Journee Roberts; three nephews, Christopher Kirkland, Albert E. Hazley Jr. and Robert E. Hazley Jr.

Mr. Hazley is survived by his wife, Sharon Dale of Atmore; his mother, Slyvia Hazley Williams; a daughter, Jacinda Rattiliff of Cleveland, Ohio; two sons, Mickeal Rattiliff and Earnest Rattiliff, both of Cleveland; a granddaughter, KaDaisha Rattiliff of Cleveland; three brothers, Earnest Hazley of Huntsville, Ala., Gary (Emma Jean) Hazley of Monroeville, Ala. and A.C. Williams Jr. of Atmore; two sisters, Deloise (Alfred) Johnson and Meacheal Hazley, all of Atmore; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Hazley and Shirley Hazley, both of Atmore; a special friend, Wayne Gray of Atmore and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 12, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Christian Memorial Funeral Home. Interment followed at Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Nokomis, Ala. The Rev. Michael Wilson delivered the eulogy.

Pallbearers were his nephews and cousins.

Flower bearers were his nieces.

Willie Davis Powers

Mr. Willie Davis “Monkey Baby” Powers, age 66, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2023. He was born in Atmore to the proud parents, John Lewis and Addie Lee Powers Sr. He was a proud 1979 graduate of Escambia County High School. He began his Christian experience at a very early age by joining Zion Star A.M.E. Church in Atmore.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Lewis “Moon” Powers Jr.

Mr. Powers is survived by a loving and devoted brother, James (Krystal) Powers of Atmore; an adoptive brother, Douglas Cooper of Fort Mitchell, Ala.; three aunts, Lucille Taylor and Angie Brooks, both of Atmore and Barbara (Jimmy) Brooks of Akron, Ohio; two nephews, Scottie (Charlene) Powers and Justin Jefferson of Atmore; great-nephews, Cortez Finklea, Scottie Powers Jr., Justin Jefferson Jr. and Kyson Jefferson, all of Atmore; a great-niece, DaNiya of Fla.; special friends, Vince McDowell, Linda Stallworth and family, George Stallworth and Jimmy Tolbert Jr., Donald Ray McKenzie and Corey Henderson, all of Atmore; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 11 a.m. from Zion Star A.M.E. Zion Church officiated by Pastor Jean Archie, Elder Cal Abner and Apostle De’Bruce Nelson. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Tafoya Monta Frye Sr.

Mr. Tafoya Monta Frye Sr., age 70, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, May 5, 2023. He was born in Atmore, Ala. to James Collins Jr. and Judith Frye. He had a special love for baseball and continued to play throughout his teenage years. He relocated to Atlanta, Ga. with his mother. Later his family moved back to Atmore and he was a 1992 ECHS graduate. He was a fan of University of Alabama and Denver Broncos football.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Melanie Holloway-Frye; his father, James Collins Jr.; his step-father, Ernest C. Dobbs; grandparents, Carrie B. Watson (Ollie James) Frye Sr., Lois (Warren) Terrell and James (Yvonne) Collins Sr.

Mr. Frye is survived by his mother, Judith F. Dobbs; his bonus father, Vincent R. Lambert of Atmore,; a special friend, Tameka Reeves-Dunbar of Atmore; two sisters, Justina Ankum of Pensacola, Fla. and Tamesha (Terrance) McCants of Brewton, Ala.; three brothers, Maya Frye of Va., Shelton McKenzie and Scottie Dixon, both of Atmore; a Godbrother, Eric Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.; host of grandchildren, special nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. from Empowerment Christian Center in Atmore. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery, with Apostle Robert Grissett Sr. delivering the eulogy. Bishop Catrado North Overseer and Pastor Kimberly North served as Host Pastor.

Dora Mae Williams

Evangelist Dora Mae Williams, age 70, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, May 5, 2023 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. She was born to the late Eddie Lee Banks and Roxie Lee Harvey. She served as co-pastor to Apostle Marcus Lewis Sr. for 45 years at God House Tabernacle of Deliverance Church. She traveled many places, preaching the true word of God. She will always be remembered as a virtuous woman.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda Banks-Smith and Prophetess Joanne Lewis; a brother, Johnny Ray Banks; husband, Deacon Alfred Williams.

Evangelist Williams is survived by two sisters, Cindy Hartley of Atmore and Jessie Mae Moore of Birmingham, Ala.; eight brothers, Eddie (Betty) Banks, Louis (Teresa) Banks, Willie C. Banks, J.L. (Carolyn) Banks, F.D. (Ora) Banks, Tyrone (Shamiela) Hartley, Steve Banks, all of Atmore and Melvin Hartley of Chicago, Ill.; step-mother, Lula Mae Banks of Atmore; a step-brother, Joey Smith and a step-sister, Cynthia (Enoch) Elliott, both of Pensacola, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Joann (Charles) Williams, Kathleen (Rubin) Harris of Atmore and Ann (Veorice) Prowell of Columbus, Ga.; four brothers-in-law, Clarence (Ber nice) Williams, Melvin (Jackie) Williams and Apostle Marcus Lewis, all of Atmore and James (Alice) Williams of Bay Minette, Ala., along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 12, 2023 at 2 p.m. from Empowerment Christian Center. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery, with Apostle Louis Banks Sr. delivering the eulogy, Bishop Catrado North Overseer and Pastor Kimberly North served as Host Pastor.

Ronald Lee Mize, Jr.

Mr. Ronald Lee Mize, Jr., age 59, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023 at his residence.  He was born in Gary, Ind. to Ronald Lee Mize, Sr. and Linda Lou Curtright Mize. He was a member of the Stockton Lodge #142.  He also was a residential and commercial painter for most of his life.  

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Mr. Mize is survived by his wife, Renee Boyette Mize of Atmore; his father, Ronald Lee (Judy) Mize, Sr. of Lowell, Ind.; his son, Cody Mize of Atmore; his sister, Tammy Sample of Sacramento, Calif. and two nieces, Danielle Sample and Alley (Brian) Ditty

Jewell Luverne “Lucy” Lowry

Mrs. Jewell Luverne “Lucy” Lowry, age 84, passed away Friday, May 19, 2023 in Fairhope, Ala. She was born in Brewton, Ala. She was a resident of Lafayette, La. for fifteen years and has resided in Foley, Ala. for the past nineteen years. She was a member of Moyeville Baptist Church. She was a secretary in the oilfield business for many years. She was an avid fisherman and a very skilled seamstress.  She enjoyed gardening with both vegetables and flowers. She was member of the Red Hatters Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur B. (Jewell Bailey) Bell; husband, Alva L. Lowry; one son, Bryan Keith Rutherford; one grandson, Anthony Wayne Rutherford; three brothers, Tharon Bell, Russell Bell, Arthur “Jr” Bell; four sisters, Juanita Bell, Gloria Bell, Mildred Lambeth and Virginia Moye.
Mrs. Lowry is survived by her one son, Chester W. (Robin) Rutherford of Molino, Fla.; one daughter, Cathy Cook of Cantonment, Fla.; one brother, Roscoe (Tommie Lee) of Moyeville; four sisters, Evalou Pittman of Grove Hill, Ala., Judith Clay of Foley,  Jean (Don) Fritts  and Willanet “Sunshine” (Ken) Barksdale, all of Lillian, Ala.; six grandchildren, Cassae Rutherford, Shavon Lynch, Ryan Booth, Kristen Booth, Anthony Ortiz, Kenny Stanger; twelve great-grandchildren,  other relatives and her dog ,“Minnie”.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 22, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Mike Hutto officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family received friends Monday, May 22, 2023 from 1p.m. until 2 p.m. at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.
Pallbearers were Ron Moxness, Jr., Phillip Lambeth, Ryan Booth, Brandon Bell, Anthony Ortiz, and Kenneth Stanger.

Danielle Marie Holt

Ms. Danielle Marie Holt, age 41, of Century, Fla., passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023 in Fairhope, Ala.  She was born in San Antonio, Texas to Russell Dale and Diane Rose Holt. She cherished her children with all of her heart and had a love of music.  

She was preceded in death by her sister, Brandi Joanne Holt Starr. 

Ms. Holt is survived by her parents, Russell and Diane Holt; her children, Christian Alexander Holt,  Destyni Bella and Emily Rose Uceda, all of Fairhope, Ala.; her brother, Russell John Holt of Daphne, Ala.; her sister, Amanda Elise Holt of Century and her nieces and nephews, Isaiah Jayce Rose, Gregory Cale Starr, Russell Ayden Starr and Cailey Marie Starr. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Lana Moore Melvin

Mrs. Lana Moore Melvin, age 69, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023 in Atmore, Ala. She was born in Pensacola, Fla. to Charles and Dorothy (Davis) Moore. She has resided most of her life in Atmore. She was a floral designer for many years. She enjoyed going fishing and to the beach, watching Alabama football and watching wrestling with her granddaughter Brittany. She enjoyed traveling with her husband while he was in the military.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Tonya Vickery Gilbert and numerous brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Melvin is survived by her husband of thirty-nine years, Rick Melvin of Atmore; one granddaughter, Brittany Gilbert, of Atmore; two brothers, Glenn (Diana) Moore of Alabaster, Ala. and James (Linda) Moore of Tampa, Fla. and other relatives.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. Thurl Pearson officiating.

Ms. Dianne Lee Simon, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Atmore Community Hospital.
