The Perdido Raiders Middle School track and field team recently competed and excelled in a championship meet.
The competition was fierce, but the team rose to the challenge and proved themselves to be top contenders. Traegan James was a standout performer, winning the 100 and 200 meter races, and leading the way in the 4×100 relay team alongside Jerry Sellers, Swayden Byrd, and Brantley Vinson. Presley Roberts won the 100 meter race and led the 4×100 team to victory with Saddie Wiggins, Mya Martinez, and Alley Hall.
Gavin Brandt won the 1600 meter race, breaking his personal record with an impressive time of 5:51. Paisley Coley won both the 1600 and 800 meter races, and received the MVP award for her outstanding performance.
The boys’ team won the 1A championship for the third year in a row under the leadership of Coach Vincent Coley. The girls’ team also put up a commendable effort, placing second in the 1A division.
“None of this would have been possible without the support of the Perdido School community,” Coach Coley said. “We appreciate everyone who has supported the team, from the cafeteria staff who provided nourishment and fuel, to principal Phillip Stewart and assistant principal Alysson Maxwell who cheered them on every step of the way. The team has truly made their school and community proud, and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future.”
