Still under investigation

Atmore police detectives are still investigating a two-person shootout that took place on a city street last week, as well as a January shooting incident that took place at a municipal park.
The most recent gunplay took place on Liberty Street, where police reported that two individuals were involved in that shooting. Neither of the shooters were injured, nor were any bystanders.
“Apparently, two people were shooting at each other but no one was injured,” Atmore Police Department Sgt. Darrell McMann said last Friday, April 21. “The incident is still under investigation.”
In a similar vein, city police have still not made an arrest in connection to a January 25 incident during which several shots were fired by an unknown number of people at Westside Park. Numerous shell casings were found in the grass and along the road into the park.
There were no injuries in that incident, either, although flying bullets hit a home and a car across U.S. 31 from the park.
McMann said this week there is “nothing new” to report on either shooting.
Police are urging anyone with information that might help lead to the arrest of the individuals responsible for either shooting to call 251-368-9141.
