Coaches needed
Atmore’s Cal Ripken Baseball League is in need of adults to coach teams in two age groups, 7-8 years and 12-and-under. Assistant coaches and umpires who are knowledgeable of youth baseball and its rules are also badly needed. Those willing to help steer the young players are urged to call Murray Johnson at 251-294-1128.

All-State cager
Escambia County High School basketball standout Stephen Williams was named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s second-team Class 4A All-State squad. Stephen, a 6-8 junior forward, is a team leader and is expected to be inundated with college offers by the time he graduates.

New fieldhouse
A groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting ceremony has been tentatively set for “late April” for Escambia County High’s upgraded athletic fieldhouse, which will feature all-new showers, weight room, head coach’s office and more. The renovation and addition are expected to cost $1.2 million. Athletic Director Vincent Harris has said on several occasions that that the new facility will play a major role in rebuilding the ECHS football program.
