Escambia County High School officials announced this week that 11 ECHS students have earned a collective $184,000 in scholarships to attend Alabama A&M University.
“Isn’t that great?” exclaimed ECHS Principal Kike Pettaway. “It’s unusual to get $184,000 from one school, but these kids have all worked hard and are very deserving.”
The Huntsville university awarded three $20,000 scholarships, six scholarships of $16,000 each, and two $14,000 scholarships to the local high school seniors.
Daniel Gunaca and Lexi Peavy earned educational aid worth $14,000. Those who received $16,000 packages were Jayla Bullard, Timia Gaines, Isabella McGee, Darron Nichols, Tykeria Lambert and Breona Gaines.
The three awarded the $20,000 education grants were Judah Dennis, Marquise Kirk and Summayah Tolbert.
The ECHS principal said the total financial worth of scholarships offered to students at her school will continue to grow in the near future.
“We have more coming from other schools,” she said. “I am so proud of every one of these students. We certainly appreciate Alabama A&M for awarding these scholarships to our students.”
