William Odell McGee

Mr. William Odell McGee, age 50, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at his home in Poarch, Ala. He was born in Garland, Texas and resided in Corsicana, Texas before moving to Atmore, Ala. area in 2006. He was a member of Robinsonville Baptist Church, and proud member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians where, he was employed with them for a number of years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and taking pride in being a master gardener. He loved his animals especially his dogs and horses. He enjoyed collecting cards, building model cars, and other crafts. He enjoyed using tractors and lawnmowers for getting out working in fields and yards for himself and others. He was a promise keeper, and loved to talk and never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas (Suzanne Hammock) McGee, Jr.

Mr. McGee is survived by his loving wife of twenty-seven years, Alyssia McGee of Poarch; two daughters, Cheyenne McGee of Columbus, Miss., Shawnee McGee, of Poarch; two cousins, Chris Blackburn and Tracy Linam, both of Poarch other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at11 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral home, LLC. with Rev. Phil Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

Martha Lou Carnley Shivers

Mrs. Martha Lou Carnley Shivers, age 85, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022 in Pensacola, Fla. She has resided most of her life in Flomaton, Ala. and retired from Vanity Fair Mills with many years of service. She was an avid quilter, enjoyed gardening, flowers, and fishing. She was a loving mother and always a good story teller to the children. She was a very good cook and enjoyed all the family get togethers. She was one of a kind, always the life of the party, and always loved to have a “good time.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis (Hattie Louise Knowles) Carnley; two brothers, Lewis Carnley, Jr. and James Edward Carnley; one sister, Betty Jean Price.

Mrs. Shivers is survived by her loving husband of sixty-seven years, Joe Shivers, Sr. of Flomaton, Ala.; one son, Joe (Sue) Shivers, Jr. of Jay, Fla.; three brothers, Eddie Carnley of Milton, Fla., Simmie Carnley of Century and Quinton Carnley of Cantonment; two sisters, Dottie Ladner of Century and Marie Turk of Hurley, Miss.; two grandchildren, Philip Shivers of Jay, Fla. and Angel Shivers (Terry) Kelley of Jay; five great-grandchildren, Autumn Shivers, Alex Shivers, Carson Shivers, Peighton Cobb, Jansen Cobb; numerous nephews and nieces, other relatives, and friends.

Graveside services will be held Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Cemetery with Rev. Ray Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Philip Shivers, Terry Kelley and Jansen Cobb.

Joann Nellums Boutwell

Mrs. Joann Nellums Boutwell, age 73, passed away Monday, October 24, 2022 in Pensacola, Fla. She resided most of her life in Poarch, Ala. and was a proud member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. She was a nurse and caretaker for many years. She enjoyed art, painting, reading, and always enjoyed drinking a good cup of coffee. She was a very spiritual woman, always full of life and loved to travel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Daniel Nellums and Reva McGhee Walker; one daughter, Jamie Swain; two sisters, Sharon Walker Peebles, Lenora Walker Harrelson; three brothers, David Henry Nellums, Jr., Lamar “Bubba” Walker, Larry Walker and grandparents, Cora Presley and Riley McGhee.

Mrs. Boutwell is survived by three daughters, Frankie Ann “Dank” Roberts (Jeremy) Martin of Robertsdale, Ala., Rebecca “Beck” Boutwell (Christopher) Nall and Marla “Megan” Boutwell (Christopher Thompson), all of Flomaton, Ala.; one brother, Tony Walker of Nokomis, Ala.; two sisters, Darlene Walker (Sam) Hitchcock of Bratt, Fla. and Donna Sue Walker Marquardt of Poarch; twenty grandchildren, Kirsten, Shelby, Dolton, Dylan, Jordon, Samantha “Tuti”, Tyler, Kenny, Trenton, Evan, Nevada, Joshua, Blake, Peyton, Jimmy, Jessie, Charity, Jonathan, Jacob, Halana; seven great-grandchildren, Summer, Skyler, Simeon, Malachi, Kyler, Emery, Trista other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 3 p.m.at Petty-Eastside Chapel funeral Home, LLC. Burial will follow at Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

Helen J. McKinley

McKinley

Mrs. Helen J. McKinley, 85, of Canoe, Ala. passed away Wednesday October 26, 2022 at her residence. She was born in Flomaton, Ala. to Allen and Lena Emmons Driskell. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Canoe. She was a loving mother and dear friend. She deeply loved being with her family and going out to eat. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant sister, Irene “Jiggs” Driskell; her sister, Lucille Woodfin and her brother, James Driskell. 

Mrs. McKinley is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Henry O’Neal McKinley of Canoe; her son, Kevin (Sondra) McKinley of Canoe; her brother, Gene (Liley) Driskell of Byrneville, Fla.; her grandchildren, Jackson Reed, Autumn (Josh) Day and Abby Reed along with several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 30, 2022 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Canoe with Bro. Waylon Stuckey officiating. Interment will follow in Canoe Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, October 30, 2022 from 2 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Canoe.

Janet Howell Taylor

Mrs. Janet Howell Taylor, age 76, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2022. She was born in Gordo, Ala. She served as majorette in the Green Wave high school marching band, earned her education degree at Livingston University and launched into four-plus decades of elementary teaching in Atmore and Northwest Florida. During her child rearing years she tucked in her kids with the sweetest prayers, made attending their ballgames and recitals a priority, and never overlooked their grammatical felony of ending a sentence with a preposition. (Ask her, “Where’s my book at?” and she replied, “Between the ‘A’ and the ’T’.”) She gave her children so much more than they could ever repay. She sang to The Judds, danced to “Mustang Sally” and became stirred by “Unchained Melody. She played “Sentimental Journey” on the living room piano, appropriate for a tender, sentimental woman who carried the “worrying Mama” gene. She teared up at the end of every phone call and when her out-of-town kids would drive away. She took no day or blessing for granted. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Glenn Taylor her parents; James Howell and Josephine Burkhalter Howell and a newborn baby brother.  

Mrs. Taylor is survived by three children, Allan Taylor (Daphnelys) of Gainesville, Fla., Suzanne Helton (Chad) of Atmore and Mandy Senn-Simmons (Kris) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Taylor Helton Lee (Austin), Brett Helton (Hannah), Chaston, Parker, Grayson, Jace, Primrose and Amos Burke; great-grandchildren, Ella Kate, Maggie, Rhett, Chapman and Lock; her aunt, Martha Marler of Northport, Ala.; loving sisters-in-law Evonne Beason (Wendell) of Satsuma, Ala. and Kathy Raines of Saraland, Ala.; six loving cousin.

Pallbearers will be Allan Taylor, Chad Helton, Brett Helton, Chaston Helton, Kris Simmons and Parker Senn.

Honorary pallbearers will be Grayson Simmons and Jace Simmons. 

Family graveside services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Johnny Fritchard Weekley 

Mr. Johnny Fritchard Weekley, age 71, passed away Friday, October 28, 2022 in Atmore, Ala. He resided most of his life in Perdido, Ala. He was a faithful member of Perdido Baptist Church. He enjoyed his leisure time sitting on the porch. He was always known for his enduring kindness and his contagious laugh. He was a loving brother and enjoyed a good cat head biscuit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William L. Weekley and Lillian Harris Curry.

Mr. Weekley is survived by his two brothers, Freddie Weekley and Harold Weekley, both of Perdido; one niece, Tabitha (Carrol) Fulgham of Maben, Miss,; three step-nieces, Tonya Whatley, Melissa Tyree, Mandy Styron and one nephew, William Lee Weekley, all of Perdido  and other relatives.

Graveside services were held Sunday, October 30, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Perdido Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Ronald Hall officiating.

Pallbearers were Lee Weekley, Floyd Harris, Wayne Harris, Jacob Hadley, Joe Tyree, and Jonathan Brown.

Jessie Mae McGhee Peavy

Mrs. Jessie Mae McGhee Peavy, age 75, of Poarch, Ala., passed away Friday, October 28, 2022 in Pensacola, Fla.  She was born in Poarch to Tom and Allie Rolin McGhee. She was of the Pentecostal faith and retired from Wind Creek Casino.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Johnny Lucas.

Mrs. Peavy is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Hilton W. Peavy; her sons, Shannon (Memori) Peavy of McDavid, Fla. and Darby (Kim) Peavy of Nokomis, Ala.; her daughter, Chastity Peavy of East Brewton, Ala.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Noon at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore with Rev. Steven Breceda officiating. Interment will follow in New Home Cemetery. 

Active pallbearers will be Shannon Peavy, Justin Peavy, Matthew Peavy, Robert Talmage, Kalem Talmage and Chris Findley. 

Honorary pallbearer will be Daniel Davis.

Nell Ree Vickery Owens

Mrs. Nell Ree Vickery Owens, age 88, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022 in Foley, Ala. at her home. She resided most of her life in Atmore, Ala. She was a member and Treasurer of Bethel Methodist Church for many years. She retired as a bookkeeper with the Atmore Office and School Supply with many years of service. She enjoyed cooking for church functions and get togethers. She enjoyed gardening and the canning of vegetables and being able to share them with others. She enjoyed going to gospel singings around the area and was a big fan and follower of the Atlanta Braves and Professional Golf on TV. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and search word puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Alvin E. Owens; parents, Bunk and Myrtle Vickery; two brothers, Lawrence Vickery, Doug Vickery and one sister, Shirley Fayard.

Mrs. Owens is survived by one brother, Weldon (Kay) Vickery of Bratt, Fla.; one sister, Ann (Larry) Davis of Atmore, AL; cherished nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives.

Jesse Jones of Brewton, Ala., passed away Monday, October 31, 2022 at Williams Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette, Ala.

Mary Annette Broughton

Mrs. Mary Annette Broughton, age 79, of Brewton, Ala., passed away Sunday, October 16, 2022 at D. W. McMillian Hospital n Brewton. She was born in Castleberry, Ala. to the late Sylvia Kennedy Betts and Clifford Warren. She was a lifetime member of Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She was employed at West Gate Nursing Home for fifty years. She enjoyed cooking, traveling and living life to the fullest.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Broughton; one daughter, Sophia Betts; one granddaughter, Candance Broughton; three sons, Michael Gantt, William Poe and Eddie Broughton; two sisters, Pauline Betts and Lillie R. Dexter; two brothers, John Betts and Paul Betty.

Mrs. Broughton is survived by two children, Carlos Poe and Robert Broughton; seven grandchildren, Michelle Gantt, Shaienna Gantt, Kimberly Gantt, Tyell Poe, Kristoffer Poe, Nichols Poe and Jasmie Broughton; two sisters, Elnora Betts and Voncile Monroe; two brothers, Clifford L. Warren and Zandy Warren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.; Ardella K. McDole, special friend and cousin.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Bryant officiating. Interment followed at Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Cemetery.

Edward Cornelius Stallworth

Mr. Edward Cornelius Stallworth, age 83, of Evergreen, Ala., passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022. He was born to Julia Betts-Stallworth and John Salter.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; sisters, Barbara Jean Nettles and Lillie Malone; brothers, Grady King, John W. Salter and Charles Lee Mallory. He was educated in Conecuh County School System and was a member and dedicated deacon of Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was part of Conecuh County Male Chorus. He was employed with Knud Neilsen for over thirty years.

Mr. Stallworth is survived by his wife of fifty nine years, Eria Stallworth; one son, Jerry (Monica) Stallworth of Brewton; two daughters, Melissa Stallworth of Evergreen, Ala and Janet Stallworth of Huntsville, Ala; five grandchildren, Yolanda Stallworth, Jasmine Stallworth, Janey Stallworth, Kaelyn Stallworth and Devin Littles; two great-grandchildren, Kameron Stallworth and Nolan Stallwroth; ten siblings, Johnnie Mae Hall, Voncile (George) Davis, Lucenda Stallworth, Claude Stallworth, Wendell Byrd, Edward (Rose) Salter, Willie (Mattie) Salter, Benjamin (Vernita) Salter, Walter (Wiley) King and Eugene (Patricia) Salter; devoted family and friends, Gerald Lymon, Donnie Ray Mixon, Bobby Palmore, Donald Jones and Vincent Brundidge; host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church (Owassa) Community, with Pastor Jimmy Taylor officiating. Interment followed at Second Mt. Zion Cemetery.
