Mary Gene Conway

Mrs. Mary Gene Conway, age 91, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022 in Atmore, Ala. She resided in Canoe most of her life where she opened her home as a sitter for many children throughout the years considering them to be part of her family. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and watching them play sports. She enjoyed Alabama Football and the Atlanta Braves.  She also loved catching and eating White Perch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James “John” Conway; her son, Douglas Conway; her parents, Otis and Jessie Ray; six brothers, Arthor Lee Ray, Johnnie Frank Ray, Marvin Ray, Willis Ray, Sam Ray, Milton Ray and sister, Lettie Jane (Ray) Childress.

Mrs. Conway is survived by her son, James (Mary) Conway of Molino, Fla.; two daughters, Wanda Lee of ColeRain, N.C. and Linda Conway of Stockton, Ala.; thirteen grandchildren, Becky (James) Faberman, Robin Kyzer, Zack (Jessie) Conway, Shannon Riley, AJ DeLancey, Kristy (Jason) Hane, Katelynn (Bruce) Wise, Jason (Beth) Thomas, Amber (Josh) Sheffield, Annah Marie (Bo) White, Johnathon (Diana) Conway, Ashley (Adam) Edwards, David (Stephanie) Harris, and thirty-five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 11a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. William Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow at Sardis Baptist Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 7, 2022 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.

Pallbearers will be David Harris, Chase Harris, Landon Harris, James Lyles, Bill Faberman, Josh Sheffield, and Deric Kyzer.

Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Lee Ray and Mike Helmes.

Thomas Benton Qualls              

Mr. Thomas Benton Qualls, age 93, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2022, peacefully at his home. He was a lifelong resident of Atmore, Ala. and a member of Unity Baptist Church. He proudly served in the United States Army for many years. He retired from Monsanto with twenty-five years of service. After retiring he went to work with SAV/Pepsi for many years, and worked the fields for Boll Weevils. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a very loving and dedicated husband to his wife. He enjoyed going hunting and fishing. He always loved tending and caring for “all the babies” whether at church or anywhere, “he just had that love for Babies.” He was a very devoted Christian and a man of God.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Sidney and Vergie Vera Whidbee Qualls; wife of forty-four years, Gladys Powell Qualls; one son, Thomas Evans Qualls; one brother, James McCoy Qualls and one sister, Bobbie Lee Holland.

Mr. Qualls is survived by his one son, John “JJ” Hansen, of Mobile, Ala.; three daughters, Brenda “June” (Tom) McClendon of McDavid, Fla., Deborah “Debbie” (Sean) Dimond of Red Level, Ala. and Lisa (Kenny) Rolin of Atmore; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 16, 2022 at 3 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Long, and Rev. Rickey Tedder officiating. Burial will follow at Serenity Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, October 16, 2022 from 1 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m.at Unity Baptist Church.

Annie Pearl Flowers Johnson

Ms. Annie Pearl Flowers Johnson of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, October 6, 2022 at her residence.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 14, 2022 from 2 p.m. until 5 p. at the funeral home chapel.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 11 a.m. at New Order Baptist Church.
