Americans can no longer afford one-party Democrat rule. Because of bad policy coming from this Democrat-controlled Congress and the White House, America’s seniors are having to dip into their savings, families are struggling to meet basic household needs, and many feel the American dream is becoming harder to achieve.
While Americans are paying more for basically everything, President Biden has spent trillions of dollars on wasteful government programs and green new deal mandates. Just a few days ago, we saw inflation is now at 8.3 percent. While this may not seem like a huge number, it is the equivalent of working for a full 12 months but getting paid for only 11 months. The high prices for goods and services are costing the average family an additional $700 a month, which adds up to more than $8,000 a year. Americans simply can’t afford to live like this.
House Republicans have a plan to fix the economy and bring back the American dream: We will start by curbing wasteful government spending that is raising prices for groceries, cars, housing, and is growing our national debt. We also will increase take-home pay, create more good-paying jobs, and stabilize the economy by getting big government out of the way and easing the burden on our businesses and families.
We also have plans to make American energy independent again and reduce gas prices. America was the largest energy producer in the world and gas was affordable until the Biden administration stopped energy projects, stopped pipeline construction, and waged war on American energy production. Months ago, I introduced the Unleashing American Energy Act to stop Biden’s war on our producers and get domestic production booming again. Americans should not be faced with the choice between driving to work or buying groceries for the family. That’s why it’s absolutely critical we unleash American energy and bring fuel prices down.
Finally, we need to strengthen our supply chain and end our dependence on China. The baby formula crisis is a perfect example of our broken supply chain that has increased costs on our families while leaving store shelves empty. Our country is dangerously reliant on foreign countries like China for critical supplies such as medicine and technology. This needs to be reversed immediately.
The American people are smart enough to understand that wasteful spending in Washington is driving inflation. Millions of taxpayer dollars have been sent to luxury resorts and to give prisoners like the Boston Marathon bomber a stimulus check. While inflation continues to rise, Democrats have offered no plans to get it under control. House Republicans have a detailed plan, and we stand ready to get the American economy back on track.
