The Northview High School Chiefs started off another great season in the Kickoff Classic last Friday night in Baker.
The Ernest Ward Eagles played the first half, and the Chiefs’ junior varsity played the third quarter with varsity following in the fourth. Many fans for all of the competing teams showed up to support their community. There truly is nothing like football season in the South!
Starting off the night strong the Eagles beat the Gators 12-6. The Chiefs’ junior varsity started off the third quarter with a touchdown by senior Luke Bridges. Northview’s kicker, junior Brandon Ferguson made the extra point.
Shortly after, Baker retaliated with their first touchdown of the quarter and scored the extra point, tying the game.
Height of the competition, the Chiefs’ quarterback, senior Cason Burkett, passed a beautiful throw down the field to Luke Bridges scoring yet another touchdown for Northview. Ferguson kicked for the extra point and it was good. The Chiefs took the lead 14-7. Northview’s junior varsity won the quarter.
For the last and final quarter it was the battle of the two varsity teams.
The Baker Gators started off with the ball, but the Chiefs’ defense held them and they did not score. Quarterback senior Kaden Odom started off the night strong by passing the ball to senior Jamarkus Jefferson for a long run down the field for a first down. Jefferson ran the ball again for another first down while bringing the Chiefs into the red zone.
Unfortunately for Northview, they did not score and ended up losing yardage. Baker got the ball back and didn’t score either.
When the Chiefs got back on offense, Odom passed the ball downfield to Jefferson and he ran in into the end zone, but there was a flag on the play. The Gators got the ball back, but they did not score. The final score of the game was 0-0.
It was a great night for the Eagles as well as the Chiefs, and both teams seem to be well prepared for the regular season.
