An Atmore man was arrested after he was spotted trying to steal an air conditioning unit from a city residence.
Sgt. Darrell McMann, public information officer for Atmore Police Department, reported that dispatchers received a call around 1:40 a.m., June 1, notifying police of the theft attempt, at a residence on McGlasker Street.
The caller was able to furnish a description of the suspect, and an APD officer spotted the suspect, later identified as 48-year-old Keith Lamont Brown, walking down McGlasker and stopped to contact him.
The person who called in the initial report was able to positively identify Brown as the person attempting to steal the A/C unit, and he was placed under arrest.
When officers searched Brown, they found a pipe on him like those used to smoke narcotics.
Brown is charged with one count each of first-degree attempt to commit theft of property, second-degree criminal trespass and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He remained in the Escambia County Detention Center late Monday, June 6.
