After nearly two years on the run, 21-year-old Tyrone Blount Jr. is finally behind bars.
Blount is one of two gunmen suspected of pulling up in a van to a location near the intersection of Robinson Street and Maxwell Street around 2:45 p.m. on September 11, 2020. The duo, both of whom were 19 years old when the crime was committed, exited the vehicle and began firing into a crowd.
“We got a warrant for him, but we never could find him, and then we did,” explained Police Chief Chuck Brooks, who did not have the investigative report in hand but said he “thought the arrest stemmed from a traffic stop.”
The first patrol officers on the shooting scene discovered several shell casings in the roadway and learned that an unidentified male bystander had been shot in the head and leg and had been taken by private vehicle to Atmore Community Hospital.
Blount’s partner in the crime, now-21-year-old Amirr Raheem English, was arrested in Bay Minette the day after the shooting and charged with attempted murder. He was released from the Escambia County Detention Center in July 2021, after someone posted a $250,000 bond on his behalf.
Blount, who provided authorities with addresses on Carver Avenue in Atmore and in Tallahassee, Fla. is now reportedly housed in the same facility, on an identical charge, under a $100,000 bond.
