The Atmore Lions Club held its first meeting in March on March 2, in the Mayson Auditorium at Atmore Community Hospital. Lion Taylor Lee, President, called the meeting to order and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Lion Dr. Kevin Garrett gave the invocation. Seventeen members and two guests enjoyed lasagna lunch which was followed by the program.
Lion Anne Hetzel introduced Spinks Megginson of Red Zone Weather. Megginson discussed weather conditions in Alabama and our area in particular and how forecasting is distributed to the population. He also explained the importance of wearing a helmet during a tornado to increase chances of survival. Another interesting fact he presented was that rip currents kill more people in Alabama than any other form of weather situation, with most of the ones killed being from out of the area.
Lion Taylor discussed the upcoming state convention and the positions presented for members to offer service. Additionally, the upcoming golf tournament was discussed and volunteers solicited to help with the event.
