An Atmore man was killed, his wife seriously injured, last Thursday (December 23) when the pickup the man was driving collided almost head-on with an 18-wheeler on Alabama 21.
Alabama State Troopers report that the crash, which occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m., claimed the life of 63-year-old James Millikan. A passenger in the Chevrolet, Karen Millikan, 60, also of Atmore, was taken by emergency personnel to an unnamed area hospital.
Reports show the Atmore man was fatally injured when the 2003 Chevrolet pickup he was driving collided with a 2019 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Daniele Grace, 44, of Frisco City.
The crash occurred approximately 12 miles north of Atmore’s city limits, about a mile north of Huxford Road.
Both lanes of the state highway were blocked for nearly four hours as rescue personnel carried out their duties. Troopers and State Bureau of Investigation agents using drones investigated the crash, and normal traffic flow did not resume until approximately 1:31 p.m.
No further details have been released as the trooper investigation continued this week
