Calvin Grace, director of the City of Atmore Streets & Sanitation Department, announced that solid waste collection would proceed as usual on Christmas Eve (December 24) and the Monday after Christmas (December 27).
City crews will begin running routes at 7 a.m. each day and could possibly arrive earlier or later than usual at various locations, he said.
The city’s recycling center at 412 East Ridgeley Street will be closed on Christmas Eve and the Monday following the holiday, as will the department’s offices. Grace urged residents to bring wrapping paper, cardboard and any other recyclable materials to the recycling center instead of leaving them at curbside in order to reduce the loads carried by city garbage trucks.
