Jail officer arrested for smuggling cell phone

Boatright

News Staff Report

Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff Heath Jackson announced this week that an officer at the county jail was arrested after she attempted to smuggle a cell phone into the jail for an inmate.
The sheriff said Correctional Officer Taylor Boatright was arrested Nov. 23, after Escambia County Detention Center supervisors conducted a search of employees entering the facility.
During the search, Boatright was found to be in possession of a cellular telephone that she intended to give to an inmate. It was determined that the unnamed inmate had given her money to buy the phone and bring it to him.
Boatright is charged with one count each of promoting prison contraband and use of her official position for personal gain.
She was processed into the facility at which she used to work and was released hours later, after a $30,000 bond was posted on her behalf.
