Willie Robert Dixon

Mr. Willie Robert Dixon, age 88, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, August 27, 2021 in Atmore. He was a native of Atmore and a graduate from Escambia County Training School. He was a retired maintenance technician with the Escambia County (AL) Board of Education with over twenty-five years of employment. He was a member of Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church where he sang in the Male Chorus. He was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 10, 2021 at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 11 a.m. on the grounds of Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church, 157 Carver Avenue, Atmore with Rev. Willie Hawthorne, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Turner Funeral Chapel in charge of all arrangements.

James Ollie Presley, Jr.    

Mr. James Ollie Presley, Jr., age 89, of Nokomis, Ala., passed away Monday, September, 6, 2021 after a long and well-lived Christian life. He was born to James Ollie Presley, Sr. and Gladys Weekly Presley. He grew up in Lottie, Ala. and lived his entire adult life in Nokomis. He was a Navy veteran and was employed with Monsanto in Cantonment, Fla. James enjoyed teaching Bible studies at the William F. Green State Veteran’s Home in Bay Minette, Ala. for over twenty years. He also liked raising cattle, horses and bird dogs, farming, beekeeping, fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son and daughter-in-law, Edward Allen and Debra Strawbridge Presley; grandson, Troy Presley; great-granddaughter, Gabriella Casey; a brother, Glen Presley and sister, Jeanine Presley Pipkin.

Mr. Presley is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Jacquelyn “Jackie” Daniel Presley; children, Laura Smith (Don), and Mark Presley; grandchildren, Allison Presley Wynn (Guy), Anna Presley Ash (James), Stephanie Roberts Maddox (Walt), Eric Roberts (Morgan), and Kelley Presley Cotton (Matt); great-grandchildren, Cole, Cameron, Chasen, Ceanna and Cierra Wynn, Jacklyn Ash, Troy “Tred” Presley, Taylor and Elijah Maddox, Christian and Peyton Roberts, Easton, Weston, and Oaklyn Cotton; brother, Tommy Presley; sister-in-law, Fredna Daniel Stewart, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 2 p.m.at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with Bro. James Hill officiating. Private interment will follow in Nokomis Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

For safety purposes, the family asks that you wear a facial mask and use social distancing requirements.

Patricia McGill Cooper

Mrs. Patricia McGill Cooper, age 80, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021 in Pensacola, Fla. She was born in Perdido, Ala. to the late Reece S. and Ruth Vaughn McGill. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Atmore, a homemaker and a substitute teacher with Escambia County High School for many years. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert L. “Dale” Cooper; her daughter, Kathy Cooper Patrick and her brother, Lowell McGill. 

Mrs. Cooper is survived by her son, David (Linda) Cooper of Augusta, Ga.; her daughter, Becky (Bruce) Gentry of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; her sisters, Glennes Hadley of Perdido and Diane Weaver of Silverhill, Ala.; six grandchildren along with several great-grandchildren. 

Funeral service will be held Friday, September 10, 2021 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Arnold Hendrix and Rev. Keven Garrett officiating. Interment will follow at Perdido Baptist Church Cemetery in Perdido. 

Active pallbearers will be Steve McGill, Mark McGill, Bryan McGill, Randy Hadley, Phillip Hadley, Tim Hadley, Adam Weaver and Dylan Johnson.

Opal Frances Spikes

Miss Opal Frances Spikes, age 100, of Hartford, Ala., passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born to the late Thomas and Eula Bell McDonald Spikes. She was the second born of five children. Following her graduation from high school she worked at Van Heusen as a payroll clerk and later worked in Civil Service at Ft. Rucker until she retired. Miss Spikes was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Hartford. She was a devout Christian and strived to make a difference in the lives of others and was a role model to many.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Theo (Helen) Pate, Joe (Lola) Spikes, Jack (Jeanette) Spikes; nephews, Donnie Spikes, and Glenn Wilkerson. 

Miss Spikes is survived by her sister; Rev. W. Jean Spikes; nephews, Joe Paul (Barbara) Spikes, Harold (Sue) Pate;  niece, Terri Wilkerson; great-nephew, Tony (Sherri) Wilkerson; great-niece, Brittney Wilkerson and great-nephews, Kalub and Ethyn Wilkerson. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 10, 2021 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Hartford with Reverend W. Jean Spikes officiating. Interment will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church Friday, September 10, 2021 beginning at 1 p.m. and continue until service time. 

Flowers will be accepted or contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Hartford, 205 S. 3rd Ave. Hartford, AL 36344. The family requests everyone in attendance abide by the CDC guidelines of social distancing and wearing masks.

Ronald “Ronny” Louis Wedgeworth

Mr. Ronald “Ronny” Louis Wedgeworth, age 66, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021 in Atmore, Ala. He had resided most of his life in Flomaton, Ala. He was co-owner of Wedgeworth Roofing Company. He was a member of Little Escambia Baptist Church.

He enjoyed playing golf, woodworking with his grandsons. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren in sports, and eating a “Good steak at Gather”.

Mr. Wedgeworth is survived by his parents, Dan Louis and Codie Wedgeworth, of Flomaton,; his loving wife of forty-three years, Katherine Wedgeworth of Flomaton; two daughters, Rachael (Tommy) Knowles and Memory (Shane) Rollin, of Flomaton; one brother, Mike (Nancy) Wedgeworth, of Flomaton; one sister, Brenda (Jeff) Spann, of Flomaton; four grandchildren, Anna Knowles, Lori Knowles, Will Rollin, Colton Rollin, other relatives, and friends.  

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Rev. Jonathan Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Little Escambia Cemetery.

Roxanna “Roxanne” Jane Harrelson

Mrs. Roxanna “Roxanne” Jane Harrelson, age 55, passed away suddenly Tuesday, September 7, 2021 in Atmore, Ala. She has resided most of her life in the Atmore area. She was employed with Bondurant Ace Hardware.

She was a very selfless, caring woman who, loved her family and friends dearly and always valued the time she spent with them. She loved sitting on her back porch watching the humming birds. She loved cooking, quilting (for family and friends), going to visit family, and going to concerts with Jaclynn. She was an avid Alabama Football Fan…… “Roll Tide”. She loved her children coming over, so she could cook up a feast. She was hard working, and took pride in a long day’s work. She was greatly anticipating the arrival of her new grandbaby.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Kathryn Daigre; one son, Wendel Lavon Harrelson Jr; four brothers, Thomas Daigre, Kevin Wayne Daigre, Donald Sam Daigre, and Billy Ray Daigre.

Mrs. Harrelson is survived by her loving husband of thirty-one years, Wendel Harrelson of Atmore; one son, Wesley Cruze (Sarah) Daigre, of Loxley, Ala.; two daughters, Jaclynn Suzanne Harrelson and Michelle Brooke Daigre, both of Atmore; two brothers, Woodie Gale Daigre, of New Albany, Miss.; Daniel Garth Daigre of Wichita, Ks.; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 3 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Bro. Malcolm Harrelson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Samuel (Sammy) Wayne Garrett

Mr. Samuel (Sammy) Wayne Garrett, age 50, of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away Monday, September 6, 2021. He was born in Atmore, Ala. and resided in Bay Springs, Fla. His occupation was a millwright. He took pride in his work. Sammy was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. You could find him on the river or in the woods. His smile was contagious and he enjoyed picking at those he loved to make smile.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Taylor Garrett; grandson, Aden Wayne Garrett; his best friend, Kelly Garrett; mother, Margaret Garrett; father, “Sambo” Garrett; brother, Shane (Jann) Garrett and sister, Tina (Keith) Garrison; nieces, nephews, and many other family members whom he loved dearly.

Sammy’s friends were just as important as family to him to include, Lewis, Caro, McCullough, Price, Perry, Martin, Gindl, Hall and too many to mention. You know who you are and the Garrett family will continue to value your friendship.

Funeral services will be held at Eastern Gate Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 2 p.m. at 1985 W 9 Mile Rd in Pensacola.

Mrs. Dottie Ann White, age 61, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2021 in Foley, Ala. She has lived most of her life in the Bay Minette, Ala. area. She loved her grandchildren and spending time with them. She loved fishing and going out to eat.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Beatrice Johnson; one sister, Dianne Green.

Mrs. White is survived by her loving husband of forty years, Thomas Earl Hadley of Loxley, Ala.; two sons, Johnny White and Ronnie White, both of Atmore, Ala.; three daughters, Kimberly (Jesus) White  and Stacy (Travis) Bailey, all of Loxley, and Latasha (Emmitt) Greenwood, of Robertsdale, Ala.; two brothers, Johnnie Johnson and Bud Johnson, both of Bay Minette, Ala.; three sisters, Deborah Stacey, Doris Walley and Donna Stewart,  all of Bay Minette;seven grandchildren, Travis, Taylor, Trinity, Nathan, Kya, Leah, Tregon; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Darrell Dewayne Riley

Mr. Darrell Dewayne Riley, age 49, of Atmore, Ala., was born to the parentage of Samuel and Mary Ann Riley in Atmore. A native of Atmore, Darrell was a 1992 graduate of Escambia County High School. He was a head Deacon at Deliverance Ministry of Jesus Christ #1 in Atmore. He had worked for 20 years at Swift Lumber in Atmore and had recently started working for West Escambia Utilities. He loved horses as his beloved horse was named “BO” and he was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ann Riley and Samuel Riley and a son, Sammy Riley.

Mr. Riley is survived by his wife, Sharon Riley of Atmore; his daughter, Destiny Faith Riley of Atmore; his sisters, Alisa Riley and Chasity McDonald, both of Atmore; his brothers, Samuel Riley, II, Vernon Riley, and Quentin Riley, all of Atmore; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family will receive friends Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 9 – 10:30 a.m. at Deliverance Ministry of Jesus Christ #1, 107 2nd Ave., Atmore.

Graveside service will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Elder Kevin Williams officiating.

James Clauzell Cox

Mr. James Clauzell Cox, age 81, of Mobile, Ala., passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021. He was born in Bay Minette, Ala., to the late Willie E. Cox and Para Lee Jefferson Cox. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Mobile, Ala. He was a graduate of Douglasville High School, Bay Minette; attended Tuskegee University; Alabama State University in Montgomery and Troy State University. He was an educator with the Baldwin County Board of Education and was a teacher and coach at several schools through-out Baldwin County. He was a life-long member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., a charter member of the Atmore Alumni Chapter, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Linda A. McGruder and sibling, Willie Cox, Jr.

Mr. Cox if survived by his wife, Arlivia (Bridges) Cox; sons, James Anderson and Christopher (Grace) Cox; two step-daughters, Dawn (Kevin) Meggs and Angel (Antonio) Wiggins; one aunt, Earlene Brunson; twelve grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Bay Minette Civic Center, Bay Minette, with Rev. Isaac Williams officiating. Interment followed at Mutual Aid Cemetery with Pastor Fred Primm, Jr., presiding

Robert Glenn Thrower, Sr.

Mr. Robert Glenn Thrower, Sr., age 85, of Walnut Hill, Fla. passed peacefully in his home Saturday morning, September 11, 2021.  He was born in Trenton, Jackson County, Ala. to the late William Arthur Thrower and Lillie Myrtle Sanders in Walnut Hill. He played trumpet and trombone in the Ernest Ward High School marching band. He loved singing and harmonizing, and later played guitar and mandolin. After studying at Pensacola Junior College, he began a 35-year career with Monsanto as a microscopist in the chemistry lab. He served as a Sergeant in the National Guard Reserve. He enjoyed sports and playing golf. He was active in the church throughout his life and loved his church family wholeheartedly.

 He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Arthur Thrower of Section, Ala. and Hollie Robert Glenn Thrower, Jr. Wayne Thrower of Walnut Hill; one sister, Mary Lucille Thrower Page of Scottsboro, Ala.; son, Robert Glenn Thrower, Jr.; wife, Gail.

Mr. Thrower is survived by two children, Tina Thrower and Lori Ann Thrower Sawyer (Thomas) of Walnut Hill; grandchildren, Rachael A. thrower, Sara E. Sawyer (Daniel Wallace),, Cheryl Thrower (Joey Nasser), and Sehoy Thrower.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. LaDon Hall and Rev. James Stickle officiating.
