Jack Claud Myles, Sr.

Myles


Mr. Jack Claud Myles, Sr., age 93, of Spanish Fort, Ala., passed away Friday, July 16, 2021 at his home. He was born in Little River, Ala. to the late Edward King Myles, Sr., and Lula Jack Myles. He was a 1946 Graduate of Baldwin County High School. He worked for Alcoa Aluminum in Mobile, Ala. and retired after thirty-six years. He joined with spouse Dianne Waites and they enjoyed nineteen years together before his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Cornelia Ann Tucker Myles and his brother, Edward King Myles, Jr.
Mr. Myles is survived by his children, Jack Claud (Leisa), Gwen Myles (Ellis), Stephanie Myles (Stephen), Gayle Myles (Todd); his grandchildren, Shannon, Nicole, Joseph, Christopher, Jeremy, Nathan, Dylan, Austin; and his great-grandchildren: MaKaela, Brendan, Liam, Rielynn, Alex, Zach, Cori, Emma, Ruby, Evan, MacKenzie, Blaine and Griffin as well as many devoted cousins, extended family and friends.
Memorial services were held Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 11 a.m. in Tensaw, Ala. at Montgomery Hill Baptist Church on AL-Hwy-59 starting with visitation at 10 a.m. Burial followed immediately following service at the church cemetery.
The pallbearers were his grandsons, Joseph, Christopher, Jeremy, Nathan, Dylan and Austin. The alternate pallbearer were great-grandson Alex.
The honorary pallbearers were A.W. Ferguson and Robert Anderson Wilson.

Johanna Laws
Ms. Johanna Laws, age 68, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021 in Pensacola, Fla. She was a resident of Brewton, Ala. but had lived in the Bratt, Fla. area for over twenty years. She was employed as a nurse at Atmore Nursing Center for a number of years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mossie Laws; sister, Carolyn Faktor; two brothers, Roger Laws and David Laws.
Ms. Laws is survived by two brothers, Jimmy Laws of S.C. and George (Susie) Laws of Los Angeles, Calif.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 1 a.m. at Crabtree Church Cemetery.

Dakota Ray Bailey

Bailey


Mr. Dakota Ray Bailey, 27, of Uriah, Ala., passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 17, 2021. He had a history of childhood seizures and died suddenly. He lived life boldly with a “Go for it!” attitude. He took pride in his work as both a journeyman millwright and a tattoo artist. He also enjoyed body building, boxing, collecting vintage weapons and especially being a father to his beautiful six year old son, Abel.
He is survived by his parents, Paul D. Bailey and Detha M. Chandler; fiancé, Lyric Harcus; son, Abel Tavis Bailey; brother, Scott Ray Bailey and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial services will be announced at a future date.

Gordon Dewayne McGhee


Mr. Gordon Dewayne McGhee, age 67, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2021. He was a proud member of Poarch Creek Indians. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was known for his infectious laughter and his compassionate spirit. He loved his family, watching sports, hanging with friends, cooking for loved ones and eating. He was a die-hard Alabama football fan; he would watch Auburn football to be able to spend time with Jake and Beth. Generous to a fault and loved by all who knew him. He served in the United States Army for fourteen years has a Staff Sergeant.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard (Hattie Mae) McGhee; brother, Howard Dewitt McGhee Jr; sister, Lonia Rebecca Fontenot Norman; niece, Ashkia Lynn Williams and great-niece, Emersyn Kate Rolin.
Mr. McGhee is survived by four sons, Billy Plybon of Foley, Ala., Michael Matthews of Ocala, Fla., Jake McGhee and Gregory Howard, both of Atmore, Ala.; four daughters, Monica Carol McGhee Johnson of Brewton, Ala., Janice Ann Plybon of Virginia Beach, Va., Natasha Lynn McGhee of Frisco City, Ala., Beth McGhee of Mobile, Ala.; two brothers, Gerry Dewayne McGhee of Atmore, William Daniel McGhee of Poarch, Ala.; five sisters, Mary Louise Boyte, Georgia Lee Griffey, Cynthia Wright, Juanita Flowers and Lena Marie White , all of Atmore; twenty-eight grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at 2 p.m. at the McCullough Christian Center with Rev. Joe White officiating. Burial followed at Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.
The family received friends Monday, July 26, 2021 from 6 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. Tuesday July 27, 2021 at the McCullough Christian Center.
Pallbearers were Kenny Williams, James White, Bo Slate, Josh Hammac, Jason Griffey, Mikey Griffey, Larry Faircloth and Chris McGhee

Felix Creighton Nicholas

Mr. Felix Creighton Nicholas, age 89, of Lottie, Ala., passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2021 in Gulf Shores, Ala. He was born in Frisco City, Ala. to Ernest Elmore and Mazie Broughton Nicholas and was raised in Monroeville, Ala. He was a graduate of Monroe County High School and from the University of Alabama with a Degree in Industrial Engineering. He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He served in the United States Air Force as a pilot flying KC-97 refueling planes in the Strategic Air Command. He returned to the workforce as an Engineer for Vanity Fair Corporation in Atmore and later retired as business owner of Gray Oil Company in Atmore. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. His faithfulness to God, the church, his family, friends and work was a shining example of how God loves us all.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, James Nicholas, Dr. Francis Nicholas and Joyce Nicholas Williamson.
Mr. Nicholas is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Rose Wallace Thompson Nicholas; his son, Phillip Creighton Nicholas of Asheville, N.C.; his daughter, Johanna Broughton Nicholas Millsap (Bill) of Orange Beach, Ala. along with three grandchildren, William Nicholas Millsap (Carly), Lindsey Millsap Luke (Justin), Haley Millsap Italia (Marco) and one great-granddaughter, Caroline Haley Luke.
Graveside service were held Monday, July 26, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore with Rev. Andy Gartman officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family received friends Monday, July 26, 2021 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Christine Black
Mrs. Christine Black, age 79, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021 in Century, Fla. She was a lifelong resident of the Century area. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Century. She was employed with the Florida Board of Education, as a custodian, at Century High School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ulas (Mary Gladys) Goodwin; brother, Leonard S. Goodwin; grandson, Joshua Drake Black; sister, Laverne Mathis.
Mrs. Black is survived by three sons, Paul Black of Century, Douglas (Amy) Black of Brewton, Ala. and Allen (Melissa) Black of Flomaton, Ala.; two nieces, Liz Lambeth and Margaret (Gene) Van Hoosen, all of Flomaton; ten grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 26, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. James Boyd officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Jerry Wayne Garrett


Mr. Jerry Wayne Garrett, age 74, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2021 in Jay, Fla. He was a resident of Atmore, Ala. since 1975 after his military service in Hawaii. He served as a corrections officer for thirteen years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Dempsey and Florence Merriline Anderson; brother, Donald Jack Garrett.
Mr. Garrett is survived by two brothers, Robert Dempsey Garrett of Atmore and Michael Riley Garrett of Pace, Fla.; one sister, Deborah Merriline (Shug) Thornton of Atmore.
Memorial services will be held Thursday July 29, 2021 from 10 a.m. until 11a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC.

Dorothy Williams Allen Sager
Mrs. Dorothy Williams Allen Sager, age 79, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021. She was a lifelong resident to the Bay Minette area, but had lived a few years in Citra, Fla. She enjoyed working with her flowers and plants. She worked as a seamstress for Vanity Fair Mills for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Williams and Virginia Billy Weaver and sister Kate Powers.
Mrs. Sager is survived by her husband of fourteen years, Roosevelt Sager of Stapleton, Ala.; two sons, Duane Homan (Darlene) and Christopher Toby Homan, all of Bay Minette; one daughter, Teresa (Derwin) Chastang of Crossroads, Ala.; one brother, Roland Weaver of Hawthorne, Ala.; four sisters, Cecil Homan of Bay Minette, Alice Inman (Jimmy), of Ocala, Fla.; Billy Hale (John) and Sheila Riley, all of Citra; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren with many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.

Clarence “Good Sam” Matthews
Mr. Clarence Matthews, Sr., age 78, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, July 16, 2021. He was born in Wilcox County to the late Willie and Georgia Mae Matthews. The family moved to Robinsonville, Ala. where he attended Escambia County Training School. He was a member of Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church of Freemanville, Ala. He retired from Monsanto in 1991.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Leola Matthews Brazzell and Cora Matthews; brother, Robert Matthews; uncle, Daniel Dortch and nephew, Sonny Matthews.

Wilbern Lee Tyree Jr.
Mr. Wilbern Lee Tyree Jr. age 82, passed away Friday, July 23, 2021 in Century, Fla. He lived in Century most of his life. He was a member of Faith Bible Baptist Church. He was a founding member and first Chief of South Flomaton Fire Department. He worked with his dad at Tyree Garage and Wrecker Service. He was employed with Jim Walter and Crawford Doors and was employed for twenty-two years with the Town of Century.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbern Lee Tyree Sr. and Clara Tyree; one brother Stewart Wayne Tyree; one sister, Voncille Tyree Cannon.
Mr. Tyree is survived by his wonderful wife of sixty-four and a half years, Voncile Tyree of Century; one son, Steven Lee Tyree (Barbara) of Flomaton, Ala.; one sister, Dorie Lea Hammond (Larry) of Century; four grandchildren, Michael Tyree, Jennifer Gomez, Martin Tyree and Stephanie Taylor; six great-grandchildren; special friend numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Rev. Robert Barrow officiating. Burial will follow at McCurdy Cemetery.
