A Birmingham man faces three felony charges after he was arrested with an unspecified but obviously significant amount of marijuana, as well as other controlled substances, on the grounds of Fountain Correctional Facility, just outside Atmore.
Escambia County Detention Center’s website shows that Alabama Department of Corrections officers took Dominic Ledarius Keeth, 25, into custody June 5 after a canine unit sniffed out the illicit weed.
“A free-world individual, Dominic Keeth of Birmingham, Alabama, was apprehended by the ADOC’s Law Enforcement Services Division’s (LESD) K-9 Division on the grounds of the Fountain Correctional Facility …,” confirmed Kristi Simpson, ADOC’s Deputy to the Chief of Staff and interim spokesperson for the department.
Keeth was processed into the county jail, charged with one count each of first-degree possession of marijuana, first-degree engaging in prohibited acts (involving distribution or attempted distribution of Schedule I and Schedule II narcotics) and first-degree promotion of prison contraband.
The Birmingham man remained in the facility as midweek neared, held under a $100,000 bond, while the investigation into his activities continues.
