Probe continues into fatal Woods Road shooting

No arrest had been announced by 10:40 a.m. today (Friday, April 9) as Atmore Police Department investigators began to wrap up their probe into Wednesday’s fatal shooting of a Prichard man, by his girlfriend, at her Woods Road residence.

The woman reportedly called 911 dispatchers around 2:12 p.m. Wednesday and reported that she had shot her boyfriend during a domestic incident.

Authorities arrived at the residence, in the 3300 block of the county road, to find the body of a male, who had been shot, lying on the floor of one of the rooms. The body was later identified as that of James Dennis Stanley II (age not provided) of Prichard.

The woman who reported the shooting has not yet been charged with any crime in connection to the fatal incident.

Police Chief Chuck Brooks reported yesterday that evidence gathered at the scene indicates there was a physical confrontation between the two before the shooting.

Brooks said today that police were “just getting the evidence collected at the scene to various labs for processing.”

Updates will be posted to this site and to the Atmore News Facebook page as they become available.
