APD investigating fatal Wednesday shooting on Woods Rd.

Atmore police continued today (Thursday, Apr. 8 their investigation into yesterday’s fatal shooting of a Prichard man by his girlfriend, at her Woods Road residence.

According to a press release issued by Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks, emergency dispatchers received a call around 2:12 p.m. from a woman who reported that she had shot her boyfriend during a “domestic violence incident.”

Police, county deputies and an ASAP ambulance crew were sent to the scene, where they discovered “the body of a male (later identified as James Dennis Stanley II of Prichard) “lying on the floor due to a single gunshot wound.”

The Prichard man, whose age was not provided by police, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel..

Brooks said evidence gathered at the scene “suggests that a violent confrontation occurred shortly before the shooting occurred.”

No arrest had been made by 9:52 a.m. today as investigators continued their probe into the incident.
