An Atmore man remained in the county jail this week, charged with attempted murder in the recent shooting of another man at a local apartment complex.
Police Chuck Brooks confirmed this week that 24-year-old Travis Jermal Black of a Clark Street address, was arrested early Saturday, December 18, and charged with the shooting, which sent the victim to the hospital with five bullet wounds.
Police were dispatched to a Bragg Street Apartments unit around 12:04 a.m. on December 18 after dispatchers received a report of an individual who had been shot.
“Our officers made contact with Lagarick Black, 23, of Atmore, who was on the floor with several gunshot wounds,” Brooks said. “A suspect was identified at the scene and eventually arrested.”
According to Escambia County Detention Center records, Travis Black is being held under a $1 million bond, charged with one count of attempted murder.
Brooks said the two, who are “related but not brothers,” had spent several hours together in the apartment. Suddenly, apparently without provocation, Travis Black picked up a 9 mm pistol and shot his relative five times.
“According to the victim, there was no rhyme or reason to it,” Brooks said. “(Lagarick) Black said (Travis) started looking funny at him, then got the gun and started shooting.”
Lagarick Black was taken by ambulance to Atmore Community Hospital, from which he was later airlifted to a Mobile hospital with what Brooks labeled “serious but not life threatening” injuries.
