A Brewton man was arrested October 11 after he allegedly fired several shots from a handgun at a Baldwin County woman’s car as she drove along Interstate 65 in Escambia County, just north of Atmore.
Sheriff Heath Jackson reported last week that 44-year-old Robert E. Boggan Jr. was taken into custody in connection with the road rage incident. Boggan is charged with one count each of shooting into an occupied vehicle and reckless endangerment, the sheriff said.
The Escambia County Detention Center website showed Tuesday morning, October 20, that Boggan remained in the facility. He is being held under bond of $100,000.
The woman told sheriff’s deputies she was traveling along I-65 when a taxi pulled up beside her and the driver motioned for her to roll her window down. She said she complied, and the suspect — later identified as Boggan — told her she had run over a tire on the interstate and that it “busted his windshield.”
According to the victim, Boggan ordered her to pull to the roadside. When she refused, he reportedly attempted to run her off the road and attempted to get in front of her vehicle and block her path.
She told deputies that while the taxi was traveling beside her vehicle, she heard the sound of something hitting her car. She finally pulled off the interstate at one of the Atmore exits and discovered three bullet holes in the side of the vehicle.
One of the victim’s relatives expressed on her Facebook page the anger she felt over the incident.
“She’s a very sweet little Christian and wouldn’t hurt anyone,” the relative said. “To think some bully would try and hurt this kid makes my blood boil. No telling what this sick person had in mind.”
After deputies made contact with and interviewed Boggan, he was arrested, booked into the jail and instructed to stay away from the victim.
