Landon Sims threw for more than 200 yards and kicked five extra points to help lead Escambia Academy past Wilcox Academy, 35-6, last Friday, September 11.
The win was the second region victory for the Cougars as they advance to 3-1 for the season and 2-0 in region play.
The Cougars took a 7-0 lead after scoring on a long pass from Sims to Daughtry McGhee. Then, with just over four minutes left to play in the first quarter, Bubba Nettles scored on an 81-yard touchdown run. The extra point kick by Sims extended the EA lead to 14-0.
Sims helped open up second quarter scoring, connecting with Sam Fields on a 55-yard touchdown pass that gave the Cougars a 21-0 lead after Sims booted the PAT.
With one-minute left in the first half, Sims connected with Tyler Ray-Cloud on 62-yard touchdown pass, and EA retired for the half with a 28-0 lead.
EA’s Christian Crook opened up second half scoring with a 14-yard carry, and a Sims extra point boot upped the home team lead to 35-0.
Wilcox scored on a short run in the fourth period, but it wasn’t enough to hold back the Cougar attack.
EA’s scheduled game against Jay this Friday, September 18, has been cancelled. The Cougars will travel to face Tuscaloosa Academy on Friday, September 25.
