Chris Wayne Hawkins

Rev. Chris Wayne Hawkins, Sr., age 64, of Christian Home, Fla., passed away Monday, August 17, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla. He was born in Shawnee, Okla. to the late D. Wayne and Norma James Hawkins. He served four years of active duty in the US Navy, aboard the USS Lexington. He has been in the ministry for over forty years, pastoring many churches since 1980. For the past eleven years, he has been the Pastor of Byrneville United Methodist Church while employed as a Registered Nurse with Santa Rosa Medical Center. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, D. Wayne and Norma Hawkins. 

Rev. Hawkins is survived by his wife, Connie Vaughn Hawkins of Christian Home community; two sons, Chris W. (Jaime) Hawkins, Jr. of Davisville, Fla. and David A. (Savannah) Hawkins of Verbena, Ala.; brother, Ted (Laura) Hawkins; sister, Vivian Love of Okla. and six grandchildren, Taylor, Kara, Kailey, Brayden, Luke and Julie. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1400 East Nashville Ave, Atmore, AL 36502 with Bro. Glenn Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. in The Vaughn Family Cemetery, 19755 Vaughn Road, Seminole, AL 36574. 

The family will receive friends Friday, August 21, 2020 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

James Eueal “J.E.” Godwin, Jr.

Mr. James Eueal “J.E.” Godwin, Jr., age 81, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2020 in Atmore. He was born in Monroe County, Ala. to the late James Eueal and Leona Barnhill Godwin, Sr. He served in the United States Army. He was a lifelong farmer and was employed with Monsanto Company as a Chemical Operator until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Eueal and Leona Barnhill Godwin, Sr. and his sister, Edis Day.
Mr. Godwin is survived by his son, Patrick Godwin of Atmore; his brothers, Hermon (Patsy) Godwin of Pensacola, Fla. and Winston (Faye) Godwin of Huxford, Ala; his sisters, Linda Dixon of Juniper, Fla and Yvonne Moss of Huxford along with many friends and family.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 23, 2020 at 2 p.m.at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Sis. Eloise Stewart and Bro. Cornelius Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Ricky Godwin, Dillion Godwin, Mike Godwin, Steve Godwin, Kenny Barnhill, Ronnie Barnhill, Keith Bryant, Kelly Bryant, Eric Hall and Wesley Surmon.

 Malcolm C.  “Sam” Lee, Sr.

Mr. Malcolm C.  “Sam” Lee, Sr., age 84, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, August 21, 2020 in Bay Minette, Ala. He was born in Pensacola, Fla. to the late Billy Washington and Mattie Reed Lee. He served thirty-four years combined service in the United States Navy, Army National Guard, Alabama Army National Guard and the Army Reserves. He was employed with Escambia County Department of Corrections for thirteen years and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department for twelve years.   

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret McCullough Lee; two sets of twin infant children; his parents and his siblings, Mac Lee, Margaret “Sis” Lee and Billy Ray Lee. 

Mr. Lee is survived by two sons, Malcolm “Sammy” Lee, Jr. and Scott (Donna) Lee, all of Atmore; two daughters, Lisa Lee (Mark) Peacock of Silverhill, Ala. and Teresa Lee (Jim) Mauldin of Loxley, Ala.; thirteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 24, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Doug Odom officiating. Interment will follow at McCullough Cemetery in McCullough, Ala. 

Active pallbearers will be The Escambia County Alabama Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Tanner Norman, Roderick Farrington, Austin Lee, Kyle McGhee, Nicholas Mills, Tyler Moser and Jacob Lee.

Huey Pierce Conway, Sr.

Mr. Huey Pierce Conway, Sr., age 85, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2020 at his home in Atmore, Ala. He was a native of Little Rock, Ala. and had resided in Atmore most of his life. He was a veteran serving with the U.S. Navy, retired carpenter, loved to fish and being outdoors.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Iris Phillips Conway; parents, John Henry and Bessie Lou Conway and brother, Willie Floyd Conway.
Mr. Conway is survived by one son, Huey Pierce (Connie) Conway, Jr. of Little Rock; one daughter, Iris Dianne Boudreaux of Franklin, La.; one sister, Elsie Juanita (Norman Lee) Gerald of Atmore; four grandchildren, Kevin Gulsby, Crystal Wilbur, Ryan Boudreaux and Shane Conway and great-grandchildren, Mallory Wilbur, Carter Wilbur, Gracie Wilbur, Austin Conway, Serenity Conway, Wyatt, Anna and other great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 29, 2020 11 a.m. at Conway Cemetery in Little Rock with Bro. Michael Blair officiating.

Nina “Billiot” Reardon

Mrs. Nina “Billiot” Reardon, age 66, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla.
She was a native of Cameron, La. and had resided in Flomaton, Ala. since 1985. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and attended Unity Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Otis Lloyd Billiot and two brothers, Steven Wayne Billiot and Stuart Keith Billiot.
Mrs. Beardon  is survived by her mother, Jessie Countes of Biloxi, Miss.; husband of forty-nine years, Charles Reardon of Flomaton; three daughters, Charla (Jason) McFadden of Flomaton,  Rachel (Chad) Morton and Brandie (Ben) Roe, all of Barnett Crossroads, Ala.; one brother, Lee (Treva) Billiot of Biloxi, Miss.; three sisters, Shelia (David) Moore of Okla., Gail Miller of Biloxi and Sheena (Marty) Hammac of Panama City, Fla.; six grandchildren, Victoria Roe (Casey) Steadham of Watertown, N.Y., Madison McFadden and Mallory McFadden, all of Flomaton, Aaron (Elisabeth) Morton, Brooklyn Roe and Kristen Morton, all of Barnett Crossroads.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Josh Long officiating. Burial will follow at Flomaton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 26, 2020 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Jessie Mae Staples-Peacock

Mrs. Jessie Mae Staples-Peacock, age 59, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, August 17, 2020. She was born to the late Clint Staples, Sr. and Izola Staples. She was a 1979 graduate of Atmore High School and went on to attain a Child Development Assoc. Certification. She traveled across the United States and in unique countries like Germany, Czechoslovakia, Austria and Italy during her husband’s military career. She kept the family going during his deployments. She worked in the child care industry y on military bases for twenty-eight years. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother; sisters, Mildred Staples and Bettye Robinson; son, Ossie L. Peacock, III.

Mrs. Peacock is survived by her husband, Ossie L. Peacock, Jr.; daughters, Delvin Staples, Ashley Peacock and Jasmine Logan; one son, Anthwaune Staples; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; brothers, Carl (Celia) Staples, Archie (Jacqueline) Staples, Willie Staples and Victor (Gwen) Staples; sisters, Shirley Moore, Betfa Rudolph, Darnell Staples, Sharon (Dennis) Malabet; nephew, Greg (Donna) Staples and niece, Sherina Bowens; mother-in-law, Dorothy Peacock and father-in-law, Ossie Lee Peacock. Sr. along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held at Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center with Pastor Danny Fountain officiating. Burial followed at Stallworth Cemetery.

Ruby Fantroy

Ruby Fantroy, age 77, of Brewton, Ala., passed away Friday, August 21, 2020 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

James Hardy

Mr. James Hardy, age 73, of Brewton, Ala., passed away Friday, August 21, 2020 at D.W. McMillan Hospital.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Baptist Hill Cemetery.

Thomas L “Preacher” “PaPa” Montgomery  

Mr. Thomas L “Preacher” “PaPa” Montgomery, age 76, of Atmore, Ala., passed away August 13, 2020. He was born to the late Joseph and Earnestine Montgomery in Atmore. He was a 1962 graduate of Escambia County Training School. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He later earned a vocational degree in brick masonry and electrical engineering from Jefferson State Community Junior College. He was a member of Old Ship Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Montgomery, Earnestine James; surrogate father, Roy James and one sister, Peggy Yattah.

Mr. Montgomery is survived by the mother of three of his six children, Gloria Jean Montgomery, of Atmore; children, Kenneth Jones of Huntsville, Ala., Calvin Cox of VA., Alvin Cox of Pensacola, Fla., Thomas (Angela) Montgomery, Jr., Martinous (Belinda) Montgomery and

Detrie (Garrick) Russell, all of Atmore; thirteen siblings, Annie Marie Salter, Mary Lou White, Shirley Jones, Priscilla (Elder Willie C.) Harris, all of Atmore, Ala.; Debra (Alfred) Sharp of Freemanville, Ala.; Bonnie (Rodney) Strevson, Christine Gibson, Veronica (Mark) Wilcox, Stanley (Jackie) Montgomery, all of Mobile, Ala.; Judy James of Montgomery, Ala.; Hazel (John) Anthony of Birmingham, Ala.; Robert Montgomery of Houston, Texas; Barbara Dees of Albany, N.Y.; seventeen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; Godson, Marvin “Bull” Stevens; special friends, Dot McMillan and Charles Frye; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other friends and relatives.

Graveside services were held Friday, August 21, 2020 at 11 a.m. with Elder Willie C. Harris officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Leroy Harrison

Mr. Leroy Harrison, 87, of Atmore, Ala., passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2020. He was born on to the late A.B. and Nannie Melton Harrison. He retired from Monsanto Company where he was employed as a chemical operator. He served in The United States Army and was a present member of The American Legion Post 0090.  He was of the Christian Faith and an active partner of Destiny Television Ministries.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of thirty-three years, Edna Earl Sanspree Harrison; two sons, Rusty Harrison,I and Dusty Harrison and his parents.

Mr. Harrison is survived by his daughter, Susie (Gerry) McGhee of Atmore; grandson, Chris (Karen) McGhee and great-grandchildren, Chaz, Tyler and Macie; grandchildren, Rusty Harrison, II of Ga., Josh (Sommer) Harrison of WA, Morgan (Nick) Evans of Navarre, Fla., Clint (Katie) Harrison and Jeb (Mary Paige) Harrison, all of Birmingham, Ala.; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Daniel, John Paul, Molly, Cotton, Alesia, Caroline and Caleb and his grand-dog, “Jethro”.

A private funeral service was held on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Don Davis and Bro. J.T. Guyton officiating followed by interment in Oak Hill Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors.

Active pallbearers were Chris McGhee, Josh Harrison, Clint Harrison, Chaz McGhee, Tyler McGhee, John Hall and Kenny Hall.

Eddie Johnson, Jr.

Mr. Eddie Johnson, Jr., age 81, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, August 9, 2020. He was born in Atmore to the late Eddie and Sarah Johnson, Sr. He attended Escambia County Training  School. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum and began driving eighteen wheelers after retirement. He was a member of McCullough Christian Center.

He was preceded in death by his parentsll Johnson; three brothers, Roosevelt Johnson, Sr., Robert  Johnson, Willie James Johnson; three sisters, Essie Johnson, Katie Lee Rudolph, Pastor Peggy Jones an step-son, James Blount.

Mr. Johnson is survived by five sons, Jerry Johnson, Eddie Johnson III, Tommy Johnson, Randall Johnson and Eric Johnson; two brothers, Jerry Johnson and Willie Bruce Johnson; daughter-in-love, Chandra Johnson; step-daughter, Vivian Blount; grandchild, Thoms T.J. Johnson; step-grandchildren, Deandre Blount and Janeica Blount; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins And friends.                                          

Graveside services were held Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Cornelius Phillips officiating.

Pallbearers were his nephews.

Flower bearers were family and friends.
