Puttin’ on a show

The Escambia County 4-H & FFA Calf Show & Sale was held Thursday, March 5, at Perdido Farms at Poarch.
These young people have been working with their animals for months, preparing for the show and for the sale later in the evening.
Exhibitors participated in the following categories:
Senior Showmanship Class – Jason Davis, Isaac Bonam, Jacelyn Chunn, Mia Morris, Rowdy Rutherford, Trayce Sells, Ashley Bradley, Caleb Davis, Alyssa McCall, Dylan Rolin, Aron Chavira, Colbie English, James McElhaney, John Braxton Rhodes, Harley Sells, Taylor Stacey, Sadie Stone.
Intermediate Showmanship Class – Silas Albritton, Macie Chunn, Isabella Griffin, Gage McCall, Emma Grayce Fuqua, Kamryn Langham, Maevree McElhaney, Halona Walker, Ashkia Weaver, Temple Albritton, Ivy Hart, Colby Lisenby.
Junior Showmanship – Kenslee Chavira, A.J. Hollinger, Parker Landon, Kylee Langham, Aidan McCall, Abby Ross, Bradleigh Stinson, Jack Trejo, Conner Lambeth, Gus Lee, Mya Pettway, Lucas Weaver, Brayden Faircloth, Bailey Stinson, Abbie Trejo.
Top awards were as follows:
Grand Champion Steer – Jack Trejo
Reserve Champion Steer – Abbie Trejo
County Bred Champion Steer – Gus Lee
County Bred Reserve Champion Steer – James McElhaney
Show officials were Show Chairman – Anthony Wiggins, County Extension Coordinator, Alabama Cooperative Extension System; Judge – Cody Maddox; Ring Man – Doug Smith; weigh-in – Anthony Wiggins and Kelly Rexroat, Extension agent; Rules Committee – Jimmy Lee, Buddy Lowery, Matt Mize; auctioneer – Mack Bryant.
Also assisting were Susan Cooper with the Extension System, and David Elliott, announcer.

On left, Emma Grayce Fuqua won second in showmanship. Her calf won first place in its weight class.
On right, Bradleigh Stinson placed third in showmanship and her steer placed first in his weight class.
For the most part, it’s orderly in the arena. But behind the arena, shown here, it can be a bit chaotic.
