Escambia County High’s baseball team continued to struggle, dropping a 17-7 decision to Monroe County on March 2.
MCHS pitcher Conor McPherson struck out ECHS’s Davin Brown to gain the last out of the game, securing a no-hitter.
Despite an early lead for the Blue Devils which stemmed from a Tigers error, Monroe took the lead after scoring two runs on a fourth-inning McPherson single, starting a downhill decline for ECHS as Monroe scored six runs.
The Tigers tallied 12 hits during the game, but ECHS gained headway on the basepaths as two players stole at least two bases. Brown tallied three stolen bases to lead the team.
Anthony McCants started on the mound for the Blue Devils. He allowed 11 hits and 12 runs over four innings, striking out two.
Despite being held hitless, the Blue Devils scored seven runs which stemmed from walks and errors.
Blue Devils who scored runs during the game were Brown (2) and McCants, Tyjerrious Malone, Donovan Robinson, LeBron Hooks and Nate Crenshaw (1 each).
Games against McIntosh and Vigor were both rained out last week. Those games will be rescheduled at a later date, according to the ECHS coaching staff.
The Blue Devils will face W.S. Neal this Thursday, March 12.
