A Walnut Hill man suffered fatal injuries Monday night (October 21) when he lost control of his GMC Yukon, ran off a state roadway near Century, Fla. and hit a tree.
According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, Clayton Joseph Cagle, 31, of Walnut Hill, Fla. was eastbound on the state highway, near its intersection with Pelt Road, around 7 p.m. when he “failed to maintain control of the GMC.”
The loss of control caused the heavy-duty pickup to “veer off (the) road onto the north shoulder.” The report continued that, “as a result, the GMC struck a tree.”
An Escambia County Fire Rescue paramedic reportedly pronounced Cagle dead at the scene around 7:49 p.m.
An 8-year-old child passenger in the Yukon suffered minor injuries. FHP reports show that the child was taken to Atmore Community Hospital, where he was treated and reunited with his family.
The highway patrol’s investigation into the crash continued at Tuesday’s press deadline.
