Special to Atmore News

The Atmore Lions Club met on October 16 in the Mayson Auditorium of Atmore Community Hospital.
President Bub Gideons opened the meeting and the invocation was given by Lion Audrey Moon. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Tangie Brown McMillian, Megan Young, and Leslie Henderson were introduced as visitors.
Lion Anna Marie Gilchrist, who was responsible for the program, gave an overview of the sight program which Atmore Lions Club sponsors. Tangie McMillian from Atmore Vision helped facilitate a discussion among members about how Lions can work with other groups to ensure the children of Atmore who need eye exams and glasses are taken care of. It was noted that eye screenings are routinely given to children in public school kindergarten, second, and fourth grades. Several questions and suggestions were made by members as to how to achieve our sight goal.
Sign-up sheets were passed around for Williams Station Day mop and broom sales and the annual food drive to be held in the parking lot at Walmart on November 9.
Lion Gideons presented new member Joyce Petty with her Lions Club pin.
