Hazel Louise Quimby Jones

Mrs. Hazel Louise Quimby Jones, 96, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, September 26, 2019 at her residence. She born in Vocation, Ala. to the late Walter Samuel and Lizzie Mae Coley. She was a graduate of Auburn University, She was a school teacher in her early years and then worked as a Case Welfare Worker with the State of Alabama until retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell A. “Fuzzie” Jones and son, Frank Powell Jones.

Mrs. Jones is survived by a son, Russell Samuel Jones of Butler Street, Ala.

Joseph Albert Hall

Hall

Mr. Joseph “Cowboy” Albert Hall, age 67, of Davisville, Fla., passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2019 in Pensacola, Fla. He was born to the late Edison and Christine Hall. He was a 1969 graduate of Ernest Ward High School, Walnut Hill, Fla. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. He worked in construction many years. He traveled all over the southeast twenty years displaying his craftsmanship in arts and crafts shows. He had a passion for the hungry, serving as executive director of Atmore Area Christian Care Ministry. He was an active member of Grace Fellowship Church serving on various committees, always there with a helping hand. He had gone on several Mission trips with the church groups to include El Salvador, Panama, Honduras and Puerto Rico.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Hall, and sister, Mary Freeman.

Mr. Hall is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Lauri Hall of Davisville, Fla.; brother, John (Dixie) Hall  of Bay Springs, Fla.; sons: Wade Hall and Cory Hall, both of Atmore, Ala.; daughters, Kelly Hall McCurdy of Pensacola, Fla., and Amy (Mike) Eubanks of Mobile, Ala.; grandchildren, Dustin Smith, Dillon Hall, Blaze Bryant and Ryleigh.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Grace Fellowship Church.
A meal will be served after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that monetary donations be made to Atmore Area Christian Care Ministry, P.O. Box 663, Atmore, Alabama 36504.

Larry Winston Shiver        

Mr. Larry Winston Shiver, age 78, of Robinsonville, Ala., passed Tuesday, October 1, 2019 in Robinsonville. He was born to the late John Jefferson Shiver, Sr. and Orba Lee Rhodes Shiver. He was a 1959 graduate of Escambia County High School; attended Auburn University and served in United States Air Force. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Carney Masonic Lodge in Atmore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, John J. Shiver, Jr., Louie M. Shiver, Charles E. Shiver, Hellon Hudson, Dorothy “Dot” Whalin and Charlene Quick.

Mr. Shiver is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Willie Mae Philyaw Shiver, and his daughter, Lee (Chuck) Walker, all of Robinsonville; two grandchildren, Blake (Sybil) Walker of Silverhill, Ala., and Clay Walker of Robinsonville; four great-grandchildren, Braiden, Bryson, Evelyn and Charlotte “Charleigh” Shiver.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 4, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ricky Tedder officiating. Burial will follow in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Honors.

The family will receive friends Thursday, October 3, 2019 from 6 until 8 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Chuck Walker, Blake Walker, Clay Walker, Brandon Smith, Glenn Sharpless and Allen Sharpless.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Shiver, David Smith, Jim Staff, Murray Johnson, Leo Kent, Leo Amerson, Billy Gates and Webb Nall.

Minnie Luker Nordstrom Woodson

Minnie Luker Nordstrom Woodson, age 99, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, October 3, 2019 in Pensacola, Fla. She was born in Atmore to Fred and Cora Luker. She was a graduate of Escambia County High School. She was the owner/operator of a Café 1950’s in Atmore, and then later worked at the Ribbon Mill and Vanity Fair until her retirement in December of 1984.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, James Edwin Nordstrom, Ray Luker and William (Bob) Woodson; son, James Edwin Nordstrom III; daughters, Edna Arlene Nordstrom Barlow and Ruby Lanette Nordstrom; siblings, Nettie Bly Cates, Milton Luker and Fred Luker Jr.

Mrs. Woodson is survived by one daughter, Barbara Ann Brown of Pensacola, Fla.; two sons Dennis W. (Hazel) Nordstrom of Milton, Fla. and Edly (Sonia) Cates of Middletown, Del.; three
granddaughters, Tammy Spain, Pensacola, FL. Monica (Jessie) Jenkins, Atlanta, GA. Casey Nordstrom, Gulf Breeze, FL. and one grandson, Eric Cates, Neenan, Wis.; five great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 7, 2019 at 11 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Pam Avery, Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Michael Nordstrom, Michael Spain, Chris Luker, Ed Lange and Ronnie Lehmann.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association or charity of your choice.

Kenton Lee Classen

Kenton Lee Classen, 70 of Atmore, Ala.,. passed away Friday October 4, 2019 at his
residence. He was born on May 3, 1949 in Fowler, Kansas to the late Willie F. and
Elizabeth Lowen Classen. He was a farmer most of his life, but had worked for John
Deere and also had a Starter Alternator Business. He was a loving husband, a wonderful
father and a grandfather. He was a member of Mennonite Christian Fellowship.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Kenneth Classen and Roy Classen.

Survivors are his wife, Mabel Yoder Classen of Atmore, Ala.; two sons: Rodney (Jennifer)
Classen of Lucedale, Miss., Keith (Sandra) Classen of Bratt, Fla., a daughter: Kimberly Classen of Atmore; a brother, Steve (Treva) Classen of Walnut Hill, Fla.; two sisters: Mary Ann
Classen of Walnut Hill, Fla., and Beverly Classen of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Miriam Classen of Walnut Hill, Fla.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be Tuesday October 8, 2019 at 10 a.m., from Mennonite Christian Fellowship
with Bro. Blaine Copenhaver officiating. Interment will follow in Freemanville Community
Cemetery. Active pallbearers are the grandsons and a granddaughter.

Family will receive friends Monday October 7, 2019 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home
from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Jamarreo Tyrone Lykes

Mr. Jamarreo Tyrone Lykes, age 29, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., formerly of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2019 as a result of a house fire. A native of Atmore, he had resided in Tuscaloosa, Ala.  for most of his life. He was a 2009 graduate of Holt High School. He was employed with Wendy’s Restaurant for 12 years, working his way up from crew member, to manager, to his present position of General Manager. In his leisure he enjoyed traveling, shopping, and most of all enjoying time with his family and friends. He was a breath of fresh air and lit up the room with his smile and presence. His favorite saying was “2 Play” and his favorite college football team was the Georgia Bulldogs.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Kwamane Lykes.

Mr. Lykes is survived by his mother, Towaka Townsend of Tuscaloosa; two sisters, Vialenisha Lykes and Niache Lykes both of Tuscaloosa; grandparents, Mildred Lykes of Atmore and Jimmy Lykes of Columbia, S.C., a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, co-workers, and friends.

Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Gaines Chapel AME Church, 122 Carver Avenue, Atmore with Rev. Amos Smith- Host Pastor and Evangelist Cindy Stots-Pruitt – Eulogist. Interment will follow in Stallworth Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 11, 2019 from 2 – 7 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home. His body will lie in repose at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service.

Tyvontae Marquell “Lil Ty” Johnson

Mr. Tyvontae Marquell “Lil Ty” Johnson, age 24, a native of Mobile, Ala. passed away Thursday, October 3, 2019. He was born to Cassandra “Angel” Johnson and Tylando Marquell White. He attended Whitley Elementary and Vigor High School in Mobile.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Hill.
Mr. Johnson is survived parents, Cassandra “Angel” Johnson and Tylando Marquell White; three brothers, Tremain, David Johnson and Tyson White: five sisters: Desiree and Destiny Johnson, Tyla and Taegan White and Amber Morris; two devoted grandmothers: Mrs. Deborah Johnson and  Marlene (Johnnie) Johnson; two devoted grandfathers: Harold Dawkins and Willie Chastang; extended grandfather, Alexander Harris; devoted great-grandparents: Monroe and Carolyn White; one nephew, four devoted cousins who were the apples of his eye: Rodney Johnson, Raymond Johnson, Jacaila White and Demetrius “Meechie” Kidd; ten aunts; five uncles and a host of devoted family members, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019 at  Noon at the Mobile Sunlight Auditorium, Prichard, Ala. Pastor Gary Thomas, officiating Eulogist Pastor of the Golden Gate Ministry, Chickasaw, Ala. Interment will be held at Whispering Pines Cemetery.

Michael Woodrow “Crow” McCory
Mr. Michael Woodrow “Crow” McCory, age 52, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, October 6, 2019 in Andalusia, Ala. He was born in Monroeville, Ala. to Cylas Clifton and Alice Faye Davison McCory. He had worked at Holman Prison as a prison guard.

He was preceded in death by his father; step-father; Thomas Heathcock; grandparents; Bill and Eugene Davison and Claude and Nellie McCory.

Mr. McCory is survived by his mother, Alice Faye Heathcock of Atmore; two daughters, Noel McCory, Ashleigh (Anthony) Quinn and a step-son, Drake Strickland, all of Bay Minette, Ala. brother, Tommy Darrell McCory of Atmore; two grandchildren, Carter and Cayson; his girlfriend Amy Boan of Andalusia, Ala. and five nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Excel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 1 until service time at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Sheryl Martin, age 65, of Evergreen, Ala. passed away Monday, October 7, 2019 at Evergreen Nursing Home.

Clarence “The Cowboy” Brown

Mr. Clarence “The Cowboy” Brown, age 79, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, September 29, 2019. He was born in Baldwin County, Ala. to Ervin and Gertrude Brown. He attended Pleasant Hill School and Escambia County Training School. He was baptized with water at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from Scott Construction Company. He enjoyed hunting drawing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William Brown, MP Brown, Williard Brown, Rayfield Brown; sister, Blanche Lambert and daughter, Patricia Brown.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Bessie Lee Brown of Atmore; children: Debra (Aaron) Leslie, Gloria (Jimmy) Kyles, Linda Abner, Annie Bowens, Clarence Brown Jr., Sherry (Doug McMilliam) Bowens, Sandra (Derrick)Montgomery, Paulette (Arnold) Boben, Angela (Jose) Ashberry, Felicia (Robert) Kirk and Derrick Brown; Goddaughter, Yolanda Etheridge; twenty-four grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister; Selma Scott; brother, Charles (Judy) Brown; brothers and sisters-in-law, Patsy and Rufus Sharpe, Mary and Jimmy brown; family, friends, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Christian Center with Elect Lady Kimberly North, Host Pastor, Overseer Catadro North, Presiding Bishop and Apostle Etheridge, Messenger of Strength. There was no burial service.

Pallbearers were Antwan Bowens, Demarlus Brown, Nicholas Brown, Ontario Brown, Larry Bowens, Jermycal Bowens, TyShaun Roben.

Flower bearers were grandchildren and friends.

Gilbert Williams, Sr. 

Mr. Gilbert Williams, Sr., age 84, passed away September 25, 2019 at Hospice are of the Palm Beaches. He was born in Pennsylvania to the late John Burley Williams and brunette Williams. He was raised in Monroe County, Ala. and after moving to Jonesboro, Ga. joined Shiloh Baptist Church. He worked for the U.S. Nary for over twenty years In Waukegan, Ill.

Mr. Williams is survived by five sons, Gilbert (Tracy) Williams, of Chesapeake, Vincent (Angela) Montgomery of Land O’Lakes, Fla., Everett (Lavena) Dale Pendleton of Atlanta, Ga., Kenneth (Bonnie) James Pendleton of Marietta, Ga. and Loyal Pendleton of Atlanta; daughter, Hazel (Michael) Williams Ulmer;  brothers, David Williams of Riviera Beach, Fla., Alex (Mary) Oneal Williams of Stone Mountain, Ga.; sister, Voncile McQueen (William) of Cincinnati, Oh.; grandsons, Loyal Pendleton, Jr., Michael Ulmer; granddaughters; Shanetta Davis, Marie Wells, Shellay Williams, Faith Wills and a host of  great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Christian Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Sydney Grant officiating. Interment followed in Rabb Cemetery, Freemanville, Ala.

Pallbearers and flower attendants were family and friends.
