Knott named district superintendent of the year

Montgomery, Ala. – School Superintendents of Alabama (SSA) is proud announces the school superintendents who are finalists for the Alabama 2020 Superintendent of the Year. The Superintendent of the Year finalists include from District 1, John Knott, Escambia County; District 2, Dr. Avis Williams, Selma City; District 3, Dr. Rick McInturf, Ozark City; District 4, Dr. Chuck Ledbetter, Pike Road City; District 5, John Moore, Leeds City; District 6, Dr. Jeff Goodwin, Oxford City; District 7, Dr. Mike Daria, Tuscaloosa City; District 8, Dr. Jimmy Shaw, Florence City; and District 9, Dr. Cindy Wigley, Marshall County.
Knott received a certificate of recognition for being named District 1 Superintendent of the Year for the State of Alabama from Khresal Threadgill, Superintendent of Education for Mobile County and the Alabama School Superintendents Association.
The statewide judging of Alabama’s finalists and the announcement of the Alabama 2020 Superintendent of the Year will occur during the SSA Fall Conference in Florence, Ala. The Alabama Superintendent of the Year will then be honored at a luncheon on February 4, 2020, held during SSA’s Legislative Conference in Montgomery.
Alabama’s winner will be provided with a Superintendent of the Year ring and travel expenses to the AASA National Conference on Education, February 13-15, 2020, in San Diego.
Nominations for this award were submitted from each of SSA’s nine districts. The state winner will be determined based on his or her career achievements and success in advancing public education.
