Barbara Lindsey Stokes

Mrs. Barbara Lindsey Stokes, age 84, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2019 in Jay, Fla. She was a native of Bay Minette, Ala., and a former resident of Pensacola, Fla. until 1982 and had resided in Century, Fla. for the past thirty-six years. She was retired from Monsanto Corp. with thirty-eight years of service, retiring as an Operations Leader. She was of the Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Ruby Lindsey; husband, Otto Stokes, Jr. and two sons, Robert Earl Gafford and J.W. (Dubbs) Gafford.

Mrs. Stokes is survived by one son, Otto (Karen) Stokes, III of Pensacola, Fla.; two daughters, Barbara Ann Flowers of Pensacola and Ruby Patricia Tolbert of Brewton, Ala.; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel. Burial will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 30, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Charles L. Cummings

Mr. Charles L. Cummings, age 76, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2019 in Century, Fla. He was born in Bibb County, Ala. to the late J.C. and Alice Argo Cummings. He retired from Vanity Fair where he was in management.

Mr. Cummings is survived by his wife, Bonnie Black Cummings; three sons, Mike (Traci) Cummings, Wayne Cummings, Gary Cummings and a daughter Teresa (Tony) Hadley, all of Atmore; four brothers, Tommy (Dot) Cummings, David (Brenda) Cummings, Jerry (Jimmie Ruth) Cummings and Bill (Patsy) Cummings, all of Montevallo, Ala.; grandchildren, Clay (Ashley) Cummings, Klint (Jamie) Burkett, Leslie (Dustin) Helton, Dustin McGhee, Dylan (Melissa) McGhee, Jacob Hadley, and Annalyn Hadley; great- grandchildren, Trip Gilly, Brantley Cummings, Taiten Cummings, Mason Helton, Taylor Helton, Emma Baggett, Ava Baggett and Noah Baggett.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 30, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Waylon Stuckey officiating. Burial will follow in Canoe Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Clay Cummings, Klint Burkett, Dustin McGhee, Dylan McGhee, Aaron Guy and Dee Guy.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 30, 2019 at 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Harold D. Neighbors 

Mr. Harold D. Neighbors, age 84, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019 in Atmore, Ala.  He was born in North Texas, raised in the Houston area, lived in California for sixty years and had resided in Atmore for the past twenty-two years. He was a Korea and Vietnam Veteran serving in the US Navy. He was retired from Chevron Oil Company with thirty-seven years of service, retiring as a Production Supervisor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, D.B. and Jeanie Neighbors; sister, Carolyn Neighbors and brother, Johnnie Neighbors.

Mr. Neighbors is survived by his wife of fifty years, Ethel “Bonnie” Neighbors of Atmore; three sons, Christopher Allen (Hannah) Neighbors of Atmore, Steven Neighbors of Dallas, Texas and Craig Neighbors of California; six daughters, Vickie Lynn (Marti) Schlom of Huntington Beach, Calif., Kathy Neighbors of Dallas, Brenda Lee (Jeff) Leong and Heather Monique (Brian) Gutknecht, all of Upland, Calif., Tina Sue Brand of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., Felicia Rebecca Neighbors of Atmore; one brother, Johnnie Neighbors of Tyler, Texas; one sister, Linda Neighbors of Houston, Texas; eighteen grandchildren (seven close grandchildren), Ashley Schmidt, Rachelle Jenkins, Brian Munson, Daniel Overton, Jordan Overton, Keira Neighbors and Emily Neighbors and sixteen great-grandchildren (two close great-grandchildren), Brody Munson and Jayson Munson.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Mennonite Christian Fellowship in Atmore.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in his honor.

Marvin Del Mowrey

Mowrey

Mr. Marvin Del Mowrey, age 55, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at his home in Pine Grove (Bay Minette), Ala. He was a native of Rapid City, S.D., a former resident of Dothan, Ala. (forty years) and had resided in Pine Grove for the past four years. He was an electrician with Herndon Electric with thirty years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Evelyn Mowrey.

Mr. Mowrey is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Carol Mowrey of Pine Grove; two sons, Charles (Amy) Jowers of Augusta, Ga. and David Lee Mowrey of Dothan, Ala.; four brothers, Gary (Judy) Mowrey and James (Kim) Mowrey, all of Cottonwood, Ala., Timothy (Christina) Mowrey of Pinkard, Ala. and Tony Mowrey of Cowarts, Ala.; one grandchild, Oliver Jowers and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 30, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Sis. Helen Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 30, 2019 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Gina Elizabeth Burnette

Mrs. Gina Elizabeth Burnette, age 44, of Springhill, Fla., passed away Monday, August 26, 2019 in Springhill. She was born in Atmore, Ala. to Billy Franklin and Roberta Glass. She was a graduate of Ernest Ward High School, worked in retail sales and was a Master Gardner of Hernando County, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Burnette and step-father; George Strickland.

Mrs. Burnette is survived by one son, Jonathan Burnette of Springhill; two daughters, Sarah (Joe) Cobb of Louisville, Ky. and Abby Burnette of Springhill; mother, Roberta Strickland of Walnut Hill, Fla. and father, Billy (Lisa) Franklin of Walnut Hill; two brothers, Billy (Stacie) Franklin II of Daphne, Ala. and Bobby (Tangy) Franklin of Picayune, Miss.; one sister, Windy (Bill) Meredith of Springhill; one grandson, Owen Cobb; twelve nieces and nephews and three great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 11 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Michael Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Barren Baptist Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Zach Meredith, Tristen Franklin, Billy (Trace) Franklin, Garrett Franklin, Lee Whisenant and Christian Echols.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jonathan Burnette, Landon Franklin and Gracie Maye Franklin.

Jeffery Termaine Finklea

Finklea

Mr. Jeffery Termaine Finklea, age 40, of Tunnel Springs, Ala., passed away suddenly Tuesday, August 27, 2019 as the result of a motorcycle accident. He was a native of Monroe County. He was a 1999 graduate of J. F. Shields High School. He was a commercial truck driver who enjoyed riding 4-wheelers and motorcycles. He was an Alabama Crimson Tide fan and a member of Antioch Baptist Church #1 in Tunnel Springs.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Lee, Jr. and his grandparents.

Mr. Finklea is survived by two daughters, Spc. Amber (Spc. Malik) Hasan of Fort Riley, Kans. and Jakala Finklea of Beatrice, Ala.; mother of his daughters, Lasharon Watts- Finklea of Beatrice; his mother, Cherry Lee of Tunnel Springs; his father, Willie Stanton of Peterman, Ala.; his step-father, Clyde Lee, Sr. of Tunnel Springs; his step-mother, Lois Stanton of Peterman; four sisters, Crystal Stanton of Atlanta, Ga., April (Clennon) Preyear of Houston, Texas, Lashondra Lee and Latonya Lee, both of Monroeville, Ala.; three brothers, Douglas (Amy) Finklea of Frisco City, Ala., Rodney Stanton of Whites Creek, Tenn. and Clyde Simon of Pensacola, Fla. and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 4, 2019 from 11 a.m. until 5 pm at Jones Unity Funeral Home, 866 West Claiborne St., Monroeville, Ala.

Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, September 5, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church #1 -Tunnel Springs, with Rev. Whalen Oliver, Pastor, officiating. Inhumation will be in Antioch Church Cemetery.

Eddie Roy Daw

Mr. Eddie Roy Daw, age 73, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at his home in Atmore, Ala.

He was a native of Brewton, Ala., former resident of Baldwin County, Ala. and had resided in Atmore for the past thirty-six years. He was the owner and operator of 368 Body and Tow for Less, a commercial pilot, hot air balloon pilot at Pigeon Forge and Atmore, and served as auctioneer for the Atmore Auction House.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Lee and Allie Daw.

Mr. Daw is survived by the mother of his children, Chloe C. Daw of Mobile, Ala.; two son, Eddie Lee “Tiny” Daw of Atmore and Timmy Ray (Lacy) Daw of Booneville, Ala.; one daughter, Mary Daw Rowe of Atmore; one brother, Thommy (Elizabeth) of Martinville, Ala.; three sisters, Margaret Denardo of Milton, Fla., Jeanette (David) Bolt of Zephyr Hills, Fla. and Jewel Corelli of Washington State; four grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Daniels officiating.

The family received friends Tuesday, September 3, 2019 from 1 until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Llewelynn Shoemake 

Llewelynn Shoemake, age 36, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, august 27, 2019 at West Florida Hospital, Pensacola, Fla.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later by Christian Memorial Funeral Home.

 

Essie Ree Jones

Essie Ree Jones, age 61, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2019. She was born in Atmore to the late Joe and Inez Floyd Walker. She attended Escambia County School and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She was a caretaker for over twenty-five years. She loved to decorate, dance and bring laughter to family and a friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Edward Walker, Jr.; sisters, Louis Walker, Joann Walker and Deborah Madison.

Essie Jones is survived by her sons and daughters, Joseph (Shannon) Walker of Birmingham, Ala., Lashanda (Marcus) Lewis of Ozark, Ala., Lynn (Chariaka) Walker, Donnie Jones, Gwinea Simmons), Yolanda Walker and Brad Jones, all of Atmore; brothers, Robert Walker of Pensacola, Fla. and Charles Walker of Atmore; grandchildren, Syvonta (Briana) Lewis, Demetris Walker, Markel Lewis, Toney Keith, Asia Stevens, Jamarcus Lewis, Alexis Stevens, Cha’Mya Edwards, Jakim Walker, Jade Hamilton, Queana Hamilton and Shia Simmons, Brayden Jones, Bryson Jones, Brentyn Jones, Jayden Black, Taquavon Jones and Camona Williams; great-grandchildren, Safaree Lewis, Syy’Aire Lewis, Jeffery Mallory and Ramiyah Hubbard; special friends, Linda McNeal and Mary Banks; host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center with Bishop Catadro North, Pastor officiating. Evangelist Betty Cox, eulogist. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Demetris Walker, Tony Keith, Antwon Madison, Kendrell Madison, Johnny Madison and Keith Kemp.

Flower bearers were family and friends.
