The Poarch Creek Indians youth football program will hold it first full week of practices this week.
“We are very excited,” PCI Sports Coordinator Jake McGhee said. “The kids are all ready to go, and we are excited to begin the season in just a few short weeks.”
The Poarch Warriors football teams include more than 80 youth divided into four different age groups, including freshman, sophomore, junior and senior divisions.
Registration remains open until Friday, August 16 and anyone — tribal member or not — is welcome to register.
Slots are still available for five and six-year-olds and also for 11- and 12-year-olds.
As the Warriors take to the field later this week, excessive heat is the main concern for coaches and staff.
“We are taking precautions to keep the kids safe,” McGhee said. “Water and frequent breaks will be taken every few minutes to help ensure that the kids are safe. We have a shaded practice area that helps keep the kids safe from the hot, summer sun.”
The Warriors will participate in the Saturday, August 24, jamboree in Brewton and will travel for their first season game, against Flomaton on Saturday, August 31.
