It’s a situation none of us want to be in. A serious illness. You need a particular medicine, one that’s approved treatment for other illnesses – but not yours.
And that situation is where Kenneth “Kenny” Rodgers is right now.
Kenny is afflicted with a type of pulmonary fibrosis, cryptogenic organizing pneumonia. He was diagnosed last June and was on one medication for nine to 10 months. His doctor is changing his medicine to Rituxan, a chemo medication approved to treat cancer and rheumatoid arthritis – but not his condition. However, his doctor is hoping he can get insurance to cover the cost – he’s hoping. That’s not a guarantee.
To help defray Kenny’s medical expenses, family and friends have a couple of events planned.
They’re selling whole smoked Boston butts, $30 each, to be picked up between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., Friday, August 23, at Pepsi Cola Bottling Co., Atmore. Please pre-order and pay by August 15 (order information below).
A benefit is scheduled for Saturday, August 24, at the American Legion on the corner of Main and Church.
Barbecue plates will be available – sandwiches, baked beans, potato salad, cake, and a drink. Please pre-order and pay by Thursday, August 15. Plates are $7 each. Pre-ordered plates may be picked up beginning at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 24.
Be sure to check out the silent auction in the Legion hall.
Triple J Band will perform from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by gospel music. At 6 p.m., Retro (country, gospel, oldies) will take the stage.
To pre-order, contact Elaine Rodgers, 251-253-7532. Call or text.
Please pre-order and pre-pay to make sure the family can accommodate all orders and make the best use of funds donated for Kenny.
