ECHS senior track standout Sean Marshall will take his talents to the next level after signing an athletic scholarship with Birmingham Southern College.
“Marshall has been a stand-up student and hard worker,” ECHS head coach and athletic director Scott Mason said. “He has worked extremely hard to earn this opportunity and has been nothing short of a positive role-model for his peers.”
Marshall, a stand-out track athlete, has had to fight for every inch of spotlight.
Through grueling hard work and determination, the teen earned his place among the best of local track and field athletes.
Marshall, who placed sixth in the 110-meter finals during the AHSAA State 4A Track Meet, held earlier this month in Gulf Shores, has been consistent with photo finishes during virtually every ECHS track meet.
“I am excited and glad that things fell together at the right moment,” he said. “Coach Mason has helped me in being able to clinch this wonderful opportunity. I just had to do my job and let him do his for me. I am thankful for everything he has done for me.”
Marshall worked tirelessly to create and grasp the opportunity that arose and should be good fit for the Panthers track squad.
“The guy is a worker; he works for and earns everything that he gets,” said Mason.
Marshall will be pursuing an engineering degree while running track for Birmingham Southern in hopes that one day he will open his own business in the Birmingham area.
Marshall’s mother was filled with pride over her son’s success.
“I am extremely proud of my son, and he has worked hard for this opportunity,” said Wykesha Sharp. “I always stress to him to stay positive and that he can accomplish anything through Christ.”
