Escambia Academy’s varsity baseball team has exploded out of the 2019 season’s gates, raking two opposing pitching staffs for 40 runs in their first two contests.
EA worked hard on batting and fielding, along with all other baseball fundamentals, leading up to the start of the season. That work is paying off.
The Cougars traveled to meet Jay on February 25 and walked away with a 15-9 victory.
Bryant Quimby, who was first to step on the mound for EA, got off to a shaky start but settled in as the game progressed. Jebo Davis took over for Quimby after four innings and turned in a fantastic relief performance.
Davis also played a big part with his bat, as he, Randal Bonds and Cameron Cloud came up with 3 hits apiece.
After coming off of the good start against Jay, EA traveled to Foley for a February 26 meeting with Snook Christian Academy.
Snook, which has a good program, laid in wait for the Cougars, but EA was able to come out on top for a second night in a row. EA’s batters shelled Snook pitchers and paved the way to a 25-10 win.
Chase Bell had 4 hits to lead the EA assault, while Quimby followed with 3 hits and Davis slammed a 2-run homer.
Jackson Bonner, Bonds, Davis and Cloud came through with outstanding performances on the mound during the matchup.
“We started off a little shaky in the early part of the game against Jay but were able to contain ourselves and settle down,” Cougars head coach J.P. Sawyer said. “We played very well in both games, and I am proud of the guys’ performance.”
EA is scheduled to travel to Grove Hill this Thursday, March 7, for a 4 p.m. matchup with Clarke Prep.
