The Escambia County High School boys’ varsity basketball team fell to Vigor High School last Friday night, February 1, during their last regular season game of the year.
Despite a very hard-fought battle and exciting basketball game, the Blue Devils fell to the tough Vigor team, 58-45. Senior Lue Williams scored a total of 18 points during the game for the Blue Devils. Williams career total has now climbed to 1,242 career points. Virgil Peoples had 10 points and 10 rebounds during the game.
The Blue Devils were able to capitalize on some huge plays and made some outstanding drives but were unable to hold Vigor off during the last half of the game.
With the loss to Vigor, the Blue Devils ended their regular season record, 17-6.
The Blue Devils, however, are not done and will face UMS Wright on Thursday, February 7 at 6 p.m. at Williamson High School during the 4A Area Tournament.
ECHS goes into the tournament as the number 2 seed. If the Blue Devils can take down UMS Wright, they will advance in the tournament to play Williamson or W.S. Neal for the area championship.
“I am proud of my team and I am glad to be able to contribute,” Williams said last week. “I am proud of the fact that we have a chance to do something that has not been done in a while during the area tournament and we are excited.”
Williams has been a strong force for the Blue Devils this season and has caught the eye of the Alabama High School basketball world.
The Escambia County Blue Devils are looking to not only put on a good performance in the tournament but are also looking to bring home the title.
The Lady Blue Devils will also be in action in the 4A Area Tournament. The girls are set to face Williamson High School on Wednesday, February 6 at 6:30 at UMS Wright. If they capture the win against Williamson, they will advance and play UMS Wright or W.S. Neal for the area championship.
