Escambia County Bar Association to offer free legal clinic

Each October, the Alabama State Bar promotes a statewide pro bono celebration in each county. Unlike the criminal defense system, there is no constitutional guarantee of funding for low-income Alabamians who need civil legal assistance. Last year, more than 422,000 households experienced more than 733,000 legal issues with low-income households only having had legal assistance for approximately 16 percent of these legal problems.
A free clinic will be offered on October 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Escambia County Courthouse, for low income Escambia County residents who have legal questions concerning issues in areas such as landlord / tenant laws, domestic relations, wills and estates, simple real estate matters, consumer affairs and other general civil law questions. No consultations regarding criminal matters will be provided.
Where follow up representation is needed, appropriate referrals will be made.
