Two injured in I-65 crash

News Staff Report

A Mississippi man and woman were injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday afternoon, August 12, a few miles south of the Atmore exit on Interstate 65.

According to Alabama State Trooper reports, the collision happened around 5 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-65, at the 49.5 mile marker.

The wreck involved a 1958 Chevy sedan driven by Joseph Murphy (no age provided) of D’Iberville, Miss., and a 2007 Nissan driven by Lee Young (no age provided) of Prattville.

The Prattville man was not injured, but Murphy and a passenger in the Chevy, Margaret McCleod (no age provided), also of D’Iberville, were injured and were taken to unspecified area hospitals.

Unconfirmed reports are that one of the injured was taken by ambulance to North Baldwin Infirmary in Bay Minette, while the other was flown by medical evacuation helicopter to a hospital in Mobile.

Troopers are still conducting their investigation into the crash, and further details were unavailable by Tuesday’s press deadline.

Troopers also reported that, at about the same time as that wreck, a single-vehicle accident involving a 2011 Toyota occurred about 500 yards away — also in the interstate’s southbound lanes — at mile marker 49.2. No injuries were reported from that incident.
