Parker to hold book signing

Dr. Max Parker, Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida, is bringing his memoir, The Real Education of Sweet Papa T, to his hometown at a book signing Friday, April 13. First National Bank & Trust is hosting the event from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Dr. Parker’s book consists of a series of short stories about a young Black boy who worked his way out of poverty to a better life. The book examines the strength found in family, community, and faith. He inspires the reader with his patience, endurance, and even-handed approach that enabled him to withstand the negative forces that sought to destroy expectations of a better life.

Dr. Parker is a graduate of Escambia County Training School, Stillman College (B.S., English and Spanish), University of South Florida (M.S., Counselor Education), and the University of Florida (Ph.D., Counselor Education and Mental Health).

He was inducted into the Atmore Area Hall of Fame in 2011. He is known not only for his career as an educator and counselor. Dr. Parker has authored, co-authored and contributed for a number of published works. He is also an experienced lecturer and presenter at the local, national and international events.
