Atmore Memorial VFW Auxiliary to Post 7016 is hosting the fifth Annual Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration Saturday, March 31, 4 p.m., in the Atmore YMCA, 501 S. Pensacola Avenue, Atmore.
The following are scheduled to participate in the program:
* Alabama Representative Alan Baker
* VFW State Commander Dennis Doherty
* VFW Auxiliary State President Donna Howell
* Zachary Thomas Diedrich – special music
All Vietnam veterans and their families are invited to attend. The event is open to the public, and all are encouraged to come and honor these veterans.
Each Vietnam veteran will receive a gift from the VFW Auxiliary.
An act of Congress honoring Vietnam veterans with a day of recognition was signed into law by President Trump last March. March 29 is now designated as National Vietnam War Veterans Day by the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017.
Previously, a proclamation by President Obama declared March 29, 2012, Vietnam Veterans Day. With the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 signed into law, Vietnam veterans will be commemorated annually for their service.
