Flames leap from a blazing mound of tires in a field off Power Road on November 15. Atmore firefighters — assisted by those from Nokomis, Walnut Hill and Little Rock — sprayed about 15,000 gallons of water on the burning pile before finally taming the flames, which came to within 15 feet of a nearby mobile home and threatened several other homes. According to fire reports, there were no injuries although the blaze heavily damaged an automobile and part of a wooden fence before it was extinguished.
