First loss for Blacksher

Tanner Weaver gains
yards against St. Luke’s

The J.U. Blacksher Bulldogs took their first loss of the regular season in an area game against the St. Luke’s Wildcats. The final score was 21-56, Wildcats.

The offensive captains for the night were seniors Dillan Baldwin and Cooper Dean. The defensive captain for the night was eighth-grader Jadaniel Nettles.

Blacksher struggled to get anything going on offense or defense for most of the first quarter. The Wildcats scored 3 touchdowns in the first quarter. Blacksher caught a break at the end of the first quarter when the Wildcats’ center snapped the ball over the punter’s head. The Bulldogs took over on the Wildcats’ 15-yard line. Two plays later, freshman KD Rabb scored a touchdown with a 16-yard pass from Dean. The score at the end of the first quarter was 7-21, Wildcats.

During the second quarter, St. Luke’s managed to score 4 touchdowns and stopped Blacksher from putting points on the board. At the end of the second quarter, St. Luke’s was leading 7-49.

In the third quarter, the Wildcats scored their final touchdown. The Bulldogs made another touchdown when Dean threw a 45-yard pass to Baldwin, making the score at the end of the third quarter 14-56, Wildcats.

The Bulldogs’ defense held St. Luke’s in the fourth quarter. J.U. Blacksher scored the final touchdown of the night when Baldwin caught a 4-yard pass from Dean for a touchdown. The final score was 21-56, St. Luke’s.

On offense, Dean completed 8 out of 19 passes for 101 yards and 3 touchdowns. Rabb had 2 catches for 25 yards and 1 touchdown. Baldwin had 5 catches for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns. Senior Jacob Bowman rushed for 68 yards on 11 attempts. Senior Tanner Weaver had 40 yards rushing on 6 attempts. Dean had 30 yards rushing on 9 attempts.

On defense, Baldwin led with 15 tackles and 3 for a loss. Rabb had 5 tackles, 1 for a loss, and 2 forced fumbles. Senior Dustin Graham had 9 tackles. Junior Joey Odom had 5 tackles while sophomore Justin Heffington had 4 tackles.

J.U. Blacksher will play an area game against Chickasaw at home Friday, October 13.
