Williamsons compete in state Young Farmers Contest

Two arrested for Spice possession
Two Atmore men were recently arrested in separate incidents for possession of synthetic marijuana after each openly admitted to county deputies that the controlled substance was his. Broderick Edford Autrey Jr., 29, of a Carver Avenue address, was arrested July 29 after he reportedly tossed a package from a car in which he was a passenger after the vehicle was pulled over by a deputy for an unspecified traffic violation.…
Council approves holiday events
The Atmore City Council’s August 14 meeting wasn’t exactly Christmas in July, but it only missed it by a couple of weeks. The council, sitting one member short due to the absence of District 2’s Jerome Webster, approved the use of two city parks for two Christmas events. Mill fire more nuisance than threat
A late-night August 10 fire at Swift Lumber Mill turned out to be little more than a 90-minute nuisance for mill officials. Occasional puffs of smoke emanated from a metal hopper that held pulp and sawdust (not wood chips as initially reported) but no significant ignition ever occurred. The smell of burnt or burning wood was prominent for several minutes after the arrival of firefighters, but no further flames erupted.…
