Details remained sketchy at 4 a.m. Monday (Aug. 7) but two people were reportedly shot inside a Broad Street residence about an hour earlier.
Flashing blue and red lights continued to cut the early morning air as Atmore police and firefighters remained at the 170 Broad Street shooting scene. Yellow tape was stretched across the street at each end of the block on which the crime was apparently committed.
Lt. John Stallworth, the city police department’s second in command, arrived about 3:45 a.m. to take charge of the scene. He was not available for comment as he and other officers went in and out of and around the house, looking for evidence.
The shooting is the second in less than five days in the city. A Camden man, 31-year-old Shawn Oneil Quarles was shot in the chest as he rode his bicycle to a convenience store for cigarettes on Thursday (Aug. 3), and later died.
