VFW Auxiliary announces Patriotic Art Poster Contest

Atmore Memorial VFW Auxiliary to Post 7016 announces the kick-off of the VFW Auxiliary’s Summer Patriotic Art Poster Contest. Children ages 4-15 have the opportunity to compete for prize money in four age categories: 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, and 13-15. The winner in each age group will receive $25.

This poster contest is a local follow-up to the National VFW Auxiliary’s Young American Creative Patriotic Art Scholarship Contest for students in grades 9-12.

The Summer Patriotic Art Poster Contest is an opportunity for those who are not eligible for the National program to showcase their talent and patriotism.

Participants must use one of the three following themes:

* Flag Poster – Design is up to artist, but the American flag must be prominent in the design. All depictions of the American flag must be authentic.

* United We Stand Poster – Design is up to the artist, but the phrase “United We Stand” must be prominent in the design.

* Eagle Poster – Design is up to the artist, but the American Bald Eagle must be prominent in the design.

Participants must submit an original piece of artwork on poster paper. Watercolor, pencil, pastel, charcoal, crayon, or pen-and-ink may be used. Digital art is not accepted.

The Auxiliary will provide the poster paper. Poster paper (size 11×14) may be picked up at the Atmore News office during regular business hours from June 14, 2017 – July 14, 2017; only the poster paper from this location will be accepted.

A copy of Contest Rules will be attached to the poster paper. Posters shall be submitted to the Auxiliary on Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Heritage Park. This is a submission date only; no judging will take place on this day and no prize money will be awarded on this date.

The winner in each age group will be notified by the Auxiliary. Winners will meet at Atmore City Hall on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 10 a.m. Prize money will be awarded at that time and photos will be taken for publication in local newspapers. All winning posters will be on display in the lobby of City Hall from July 31, 2017 through August 31, 2017. After August 31, 2017, all posters will be distributed to veteran facilities throughout the state and to active duty servicemen and women.
