VFW Post 7016 and American Legion Post 90 will present a Memorial Day program Monday, May 29, 9 a.m., at the Veterans Monument in front of Atmore City Hall.
Memorial Day is a federal holiday for remembering people who died while serving in the military.
This year’s program is as follows:
Opening Remarks by VFW Commander Billy Gates and Legion Commander Guy Milstid
Invocation by Glenn Wardrop, VFW Chaplain
Welcome by Atmore Mayor Jim Staff
National Anthem by Lana Langford
Pledge of Allegiance led by Commander Billy Gates
Introduction of keynote speaker by 1SG Billy Gates, ALARNG (RET)
Keynote speaker – Bobby Davis, ALARNG
Following the speaker, members of the Legion and VFW will perform the memorial portion of the program as the deceased are honored.
Placing of Wreath by Gates and Milstid
Memorial Roll Call by Harold Madison and team
Bell Ringer – Jim Biggs
Fire Team – Steve Reynolds and team
Taps by Jimmy Kilcrease
Benediction by Jack Wright, Legion Chaplain
Closing Remarks by Gates and Milstid
All are encouraged to attend and observe the day as it was intended, not just as a day off work, but a day to remember those who died for the freedoms we all enjoy.
